re: Running deer with dogs
Of course it's ethical and it's a great tradition. I don't own dogs and usually stillhunt on or near my place. But I love to hear the hounds chasing and my blood starts pumping when the race come close-by. The two groups that hunt with dogs in my area are friendly as can be, call me when they hunt the nearby blocks of timber and invite me to be a stander anytime. I think I made a few friends just by catching their dogs.

There are potential problems with it sometimes (road hunting, trespassing, brown is down attitude, etc.) but I hope it stays around and I hope my son gets to shoot one in front of dogs one of these days.

Potential problems? those are the problems, and from what I have encountered, most of the people doing it.

I dont have a problem with dog hunting. I have problems with dog hunters

My issue with running dogs.... My step son loves the outdoors but will not hunt with me. His dad brings him and they sit in the back of a truck with a radio on, ice chest, food ,drinks, and wait for a dog to chase a deer across a dirt road or out in a field.

The only one hunting in this senario is the dog everyone else is just hangin out.

I said "potential" because not all of them are culprits, and because if those habits are generally accepted in the area it does not cause problems. I agree that most of the conflicts with dog hunting are about those type issues.

The guys on my lease are nothing like your typical dog hunters. Alcohol is not allowed and we have a 6pt or better rule. They usually won't shoot one unless it's a good one. We have doe tags and have never filled the quota given to us by the state.

Same on my lease. Alcohol is not allowed til after. And all rules regarding the deer are still in effect and members are still subject to a fine for killing a deer against the rules.

All of these people talking about dog hunters killing small bucks, well there's a pretty good chance that there's more illegal bucks killed by still hunters rather than dog hunters. Anybody can shoot a deer standing still in a food plot or over a pile of corn shooting one in front of a pack of dogs is a totally different story. Like somebody already said there's nothing like hearing a pack of dogs burn one up.

re: Running deer with dogs
If you run deer with dogs, all deer within 10 square miles leave the area.
It makes bucks smaller, does won't drop fawns, ghost trucks full of drunk hunters will roam the roads.
You will not be allowed to hunt with anything but 742 30-06's with see through mounts.
You will be required to shoot ALL deer you see, no matter if they are on your land or not.
You will probably kill 30-40 deer a yearper hunter.
The deer population in the surrounding area will drop faster than the Dow Jones.
The deer have absolutly no chance to live.
If a dog picks up their scent they are as good as dead.

BTW I am a dog hunter.
