Ruger has released a target model for their popular SR1911. The main three features that stand out to me compared to the standard one: G10 grips, adjustable rear sight, ambidextrous thumb safety. Not sure what price point these will go to market but my guess would be $850-950 since MSRP is $1019.

Nice, but is the adjustable sight the only thing that makes it a "target" model? I don't see any mention of any other accuracy type changes.

I was wondering the same thing. I just got there standard model. I don't feel compelled to add/change out. No tighter tolerances?

For a great value American 1911, the regular SR1911 or the SR1911 Commander is tough to beat.

I think so. I haven't read anything about a match barrel or anything - just the grips, ambi safety, and rear sight.

Well, it's a sweet looking gun. But, for my uses, I prefer my commander.

I'm pleased with my rock island 1911. Paid $400 for it.

Really hope Ruger does this soon. I like that the 10mm appears to be making a comeback!

Bapple...

What's your Top-3 1911 models around $800-$1,200 range?

I've been a 9mm person, but is the consensus to go .45 when buying a 1911? I'm sure it's personal preference. Just curious though, because I've been looking at Kimber's site a good bit, and they seem to offer more models in the .45 than the 9mm.

.45 is the caliber that the 1911 was built around. I can't speak to a "top 3-5" but I have a Kimber pro crimson carry ll in .45 that I really like.

I forget the exact tiers of all the different models, but I like Ruger, S&W, Sig, Springfield, Colt, and Remington. I think they all offer a nice entry level 1911 in that price range.
