If it's true 3-5's you should be fine, but the problem with the forecast is it usually is bigger than predicted. We went out Sat with a forecast of 1-2's, we found some areas of 1-2's but once we reached the blue water it was more like 3-4's.

Even though it's a 36 contender I wouldn't head out with anybody not used to those seas.

if its a charter he is paying for he always has the option of telling the captain to head back inshore a little and just stick to snapper. sucks that you would pay for a bluewater trip to just catch snapper but better than watching your kid get sick as shite i would imagine

I would say as with anything with kids, FUN needs to be the number one priority. Anything past 3.5' seas FUN can start to leave the building. IF he gets seasick on his first trip he'll likely never want to go again.

If you have to think about it, reschedule to try and make the trip perfect for him.

Secondly, if there is supposed to be any chance of slop, have him start drinking ginger ale about two days before. It's the best natural remedy for sea sickness and it does work okay, Scopalomine patches work better, but ginger ale is close. He'll never know why you give him the ginger ale either.

Hope ya'll have a great trip.

boat is a 36ft. Contender

The narrow beam, deep V go-fast boats run really well in the slop, but man do they rock and roll tied up and at anchor. Trolling in one is less likely to turn the crew green than bottom fishing.

This.

I've love to fish...tried offshore twice many years ago and got sick as a dog both times. As bad as I want to catch a tuna, I just can't make myself try it again. Seasickness is miserable. Try to catch a really calm day for his first trip or he may be one and done.

It's the frequency that will get you also, not only the height. Wave period and wave length is what ruins the day most of the time.

Also snacking on ginger will help ease nausea also. (snaps, ale, etc)

Go to the doctor and get that patch if he is old enough. I leave it on 3 days and I sleep like a baby. Usually costs around $40 for 4. But you have to put it on the night before. If you wait until you sick its too late. We went out in a 20ft boat with 3-4 foot swells and everyone got sick except me. It works for sure.

meh...I don't care for the patch at all and still gotten sick with it on!

I don't think I'd be taking my youngster out for his first time in 3-5's. 2-4's is my limit before sickness sets in.

I am getting some of the patches from the doc. I have used them before and they helped me. My wife went on a trip with me one time and the patch did nothing for her. She was hurling over the side off and on most of the trip. I asked her if she wanted to go in but she toughed it out. But she won't ever go back on another. She looked like death warmed over at the end of the day! I think I'm gonna try the ginger trick too.

I don't think we will go if they forecast anything over 4. We will be there sun. and mon. One day offshore and one day inshore. If seas are rough, both days inshore. We have one of those two days to get out so I am hoping that one of those will cooperate.

If yall head for Tuna, you're probably looking at 3s

If yall shoot for snapper and grouper you will probably have 1-2s

I am hoping to catch some of both. Just depends on what's biting. I don't figure we will have any problem hooking some snapper rather quickly! Even though there is a shortage of them....lulz.

this Thursday-Saturday is the Hell Divers Rodeo so if yall are out there then, you'll probably see a good amount of divers hitting the platforms and pulling up some of the biggest fish you've ever seen

That would definitely be something to see! But we won't be fishing until sunday morning.
