Removal of abandoned boats from private property......

Have a piece of property on waterfront that I’m going to start using. There are 3-4 boats tied up that are half sunk and in bad shape. Where do I begin to get them removed? Someone in the sheriffs office or call a lawyer? In Louisiana

I don't know if anyone will come get them, fiberglass?

Good luck on private property. Sucks but I'm fairly certain they'll be on your nickel unless you can tow them to public property.
A buddy has a coin operated car wash and every now and then a boat shows up in a stall. He tows it to the street so the parish will come get it.

I’m ok with removing them. Just want to make sure I’m doing it right

Does anyone take fiberglass boats? I have an old ski boat that I need to dispose of

Drag them to deeper water and make them all the way sunk

It’s not a wide or deep bayou. Besides it would be easier to drag them up to shore and put them in a dumpster

Export them.

Better hope its deep enough and vessels are sunk enough that nobody hits it. That'd be a legal shite storm and possible jail time.

Was looking at the rusted out sinking old barge pusher / tug boat that is at the mouth of the Tchefuncte River this weekend and wondering the same thing. How did that get there and what happens to it now?
Anyone ever been up Bayou Castine and seen the tens of millions of dollars worth of sailboats sitting in slips rotting and sinking? How does that happen?

If you can get it there, the landfill in Livingston will dispose of it for about $50. Obviously oil & gas should be removed but that was the only requirement.

Out of sheer curiosity, how big are the boats?

Does the OP own a boat?? Is so, then do what those have done to you. Drag that sumbitch off and let someone else deal with it.

I don't know if this is everywhere, but I think the coast guard has some type of funding to remove abandoned boats. I have used them in the past post hurricanes, but I wasn't the one that set the contract up, so I am not sure what the procedure is.

Not big boats. I can get in with an excavator and drag them up.
According to my reading Louisiana doesn’t have any funding in place to remove. It’s on the owner. Which really means it’s on me. I was reading that you had to notify the owner if possible but not sure about going through that much work.

This is what I was going to suggest. Artificial cover for bass to ambush from.

Either USCG or WLF can retrieve the last known owner by checking the registration and get them to come get their abandoned property. If the boats aren't obstructing the waterway then USCG will be less helpful. I guess if you find out the owners you might be able to file suit for trespassing?

If you have the means to remove them, remove them. They're not coming to get their abandoned property,

Be careful, a good friend of mine had a paddle boat float up on his property during a flood.
It was there for two years so he burned it with trash.
He got arrested for arson, apparently the owner knew it was in his yard and called the law once it was burned up.
