Since the process has been questioned on here several times
I bought a pontoon boat from a guy in Ms.
First thing I had to do was take the title to the trailer to a title/notary public. $188.50 in fees for a 4 year tag.

Then I had to go to Tangipahoa Parish tax office and get them to sign and stamp Form R-1331 from La Dept of Revenue. No parish taxes owed since it was bought from an individual.

I faxed that form to LDR and they gave me a total of how much state tax I had to pay. Which was $101. Paid it online and they emailed me the signed/stamped form the next day.
Took that form to WL&F office and had the boat registered in La. $91. In and out in less than 10 minutes.

No more boat trailer inspection tags so I'm good to go now.

As long as the trailer has a VIN. No VIN......you are screwed!

I'm doing this for my new boat and I can't get the damn state to respond to my email with all my documents. It's been 10 days since I sent it. Trailer was simple but the boat is taking forever

Took me 1 day to get boat registered but took 1 month to get trailer registered. LDMV gave me hell over not having a signature that the milage was correct on my trailer.

Trust me I know... even showed them their own official policy that it was exempt. They denied it with explanation. . That's just the way it is.
