I need help registering my boat. I bought it from a manufacturer out of state, and I know I've got to submit proof of tax payment to LDWF with the application for registration and whatnot. My question is, where do I go to pay taxes on it? I'm in Covington, if it makes a difference.

No idea what you need to do to register it but I look forward to seeing it!

Parish taxes and state taxes. Bring it to parish first. Not sure of where to go in st. Tammany. Then, go to dept of revenue in BR. It's downtown on N. Third st. Have your bill of sale and all notarized paperwork. Bought my boat from Georgia and got it registered a couple weeks ago. I live in tangi and went to amite to pay pariah taxes fwiw. Good luck, they sure make it tough!

WL&F is only looking at state taxes. No reason paying parish taxes.

I bought a boat from a private seller in another state. Didn't have to pay any taxes because it was a private sale and not from a dealer, but still had to get the tax forms to submit to LDW&F. Went to the St. Tammany Sheriffs Dept Administration building in Slidell (the new building on the north side of I-12 on the service road off the Hwy 11 exit). They gave me and signed the tax form there. In St. Tammany, the sheriff is the tax collector. So you'll pay the parish taxes there.

Then I had to go to downtown NOLA to the state tax office on Poydras, just across the street from the Dome. That's where you'll pay the state taxes.

You'll also have to take the trailer to either a local police station or Troop L in Mandeville to have the trailer inspected in order to get the trailer registered.

They don't make it easy at all, but that's what's required to register an out of state boat.

Thanks guys. The trailer is already registered. I bought it locally. So I would bring a check to the administration building in Slidell then NOLA to pay state taxes. Do you remember the percentages for each?

I was under this impression too. Is this not true?

Not sure. Like I said, I didn't have to pay taxes cause it was a private sale which is tax exempt.
