to clarify, I've always run down the left side when leaving the launch and heading towards lake Amadee. Right side when returning. The right side when leaving looks wide open, but it is a lot of washed out marsh that is shallow. That said, at least one other poster says he runs the right side when leaving, so...

Once you get past the area where it is split, the whole canal is deep.

water should be relatively high right now.

And, another disclaimer - 99% of the time I'm making that run in a 16' flat, so for all I know the water could be 9" deep.

However, I believe the left side when leaving was the original channel. Just look for crab traps and follow those. It's like a video game when you get further down the canal with all the traps.

That is my general rule of thumb, if it is deep enough for crab traps it is deep enough for me.

Reggio Marina---as of Sunday afternoon...

Deformed (no spots) starving redfish...

I brought a few home with me, but I let a few go back as well, so you should do alright. Remember, I'm in a poor boys flats skiff there...didn't go more than 1/2 mile from the marina...the trout have NOT left the inside yet.

Lucky St. Patty's Day Green Trout...

All fish caught on topwater, black/chartreuse Badonkadonk...

Good luck, but let some of them go. Those are my pets...

Damn son, you're always doing work in that canoe. you fish that broken marsh off of the first left turn coming from the launch I presume.

Doesn't matter unless you're in a similar craft though. I've about scraped the bottom off that canoe fishing back there, because it's typically about 8" deep where I go. I literally see reds with sunburns back there lol...ain't too many people gonna get where I go.

I'll tell you (vaguely) where the trout were though. They won't be there long, and are probably heading out now, in fact. But I caught them IN Reggio Canal, at the mouth of a cut going into the marsh, with the water coming into the cut. I was casting into the canal and retrieving back into the cut.

Caught this one looking...

This one was 23" fattie...

You see the points, one on the left, one on the right? That's where this cut meets Reggio Canal, VERY near the launch. I was casting to those points, and caught 16 trout without moving my feet. I also caught a baby bull red (about 32") and a nice keeper red there. That was on my way back to the launch, and I just decided to stop and fish it a minute because conditions looked right for it with the water coming in right there. Turned out to be a good move.

I caught 5 bass (kept 3), eleventy redfish (kept three), and 18 trout (kept e'er damn one). Didn't get out there until 1pm.

was planning on running all the way to the first bay Cochon I believe. Fish there and Petain Lagoon And Lake Robin. So I dont have to go that far? I figured with the water temp higher they would be out a litttle.

I'll give you some advice. Take it easy entering Cochon, as well as running around in Petain. Ease in there and make sure of the depth. If I'm in Cochon this time of year, I'm either throwing topwadda or suspending Mirrolures. You'll get fish, but you can catch some QUALITY trout that way. Ask Charlie Thomason. That 10 lber he caught a few years back? Cochon.
