Got a new Falcon Intercoastal MH Rod and a Penn 3000 Fierce 2 Spinning reel. Looking for the best line setup for this combo.

I tie a 20lb Fluoro leader straight to the braid

Typically, no. Use a leader in situations where leader is obvious for the situation like popping corks and Carolina rigs. You're good tying straight to a jig head and sometimes I'll have a leader to a topwater bait to keep from my braid knotting around the hooks.

On my spinning rods I back them with about 20' of mono, then fill the spool with 30lb Power Pro(or Fins Windtamer) with a 30lb flourocarbon leader tied with an FG knot, it's the lowest profile braid/leader knot. Does the leader make a difference? Not sure, I suck at at catching fish so I can't tell.

Try the Berkley Trilene Professional Braid in 30lb. I like it a lot better than the Power Pro. Get a knot in Power Pro and your done, this stuff is so slick, it is rare that I can't get a knot out.

FIFY.

PP Super Slick and Suffix 832 are markedly better braids IMO. Regular PP will do just fine, no doubt, but SS and 832 cast better, handle better and tie knots more easily. They also cost about double if that's an issue.

This is what I hate about fishing... too many options.

I lost all my rods, reels, lures and gear in the flood so I'm starting over. I hate it

I run the 30 lb power pro that's so popular with others, you really can't beat it. There are a fair many that like FinS braid as well but I've never tried it.

Braid is no brainer on spinning rigs with the near zero line memory good luck fishin

Suffix 832 in 40 lb test, no leader. Have been using this set up for years, have no plans to change, none.

This is the same thing that I do with slight modifications in the line weights. I run about a 5' leader. I don't know that the leader helps me to catch fish, but it keeps me from 1) running through mainline when changing baits and 2)from having to pull an gas pipe out of the ground to get unstuck.

20 lb. Flouro leader on 12 lb P-line is all you need. Give em a chance. It's more fun to fight them on the lighter line.

PP slick is so overrated. Go with basic 30# PP and you are done. If only fishing for reds, you don't need a fluorocarbon leader. Just tie the PP straight to your lure.
