I got on a deer lease in the swamp by my house. The guys suggested hip boots or waders. I think im going to go with waders. Recommend a pair of insulated waders in the $200 range. Im looking for about 800g insulation.
Two options so far:
Game Winner super tough 800g at academy have 4/5 stars with pretty mixed reviews and are $150
Lacrosse swamp tuff pro 1,000g is $200
Ive never bought waders before so i dont have any past experience to go back on

Whatever kind of waders you get, buy a bottle of shoe goo to go with them. Every brand of waders can rip if you walk into a sharp stick, and the wader patches sold at the store are just terrible for some reason. Spread on a couple of thin layers of shoe goo or neoprene cement and you can continue to have dry feet.

FWIW I have game winners as well and I hunt pretty hard in them. I would consider getting cabelas again but only because they have a great return policy (I went through two pairs of cabelas waders in 2013-14 duck season and they accepted both for a full return). Both of the cabelas waders were ripping apart at the seams though (which in my opinion is a manufacturing defect), as opposed to the game winners which I punctured several times on sticks and roseaucane stubs (which I feel is my own fault).

Check out Rogers Sporting Goods dot com. My buddy swears by his waders made by Rogers, and they are really inexpensive.

ill probably go with the GW simply for the price and like you said, they will all rip. I wont be using them every weekend so i dont want to spend a hundreds but i dont want a wet arse a mile in the swamp

Depends on how much walking you have to do... Waders are hard to walk long distances...

If you go thru BR Bowies usually has nice waders on sale for cheap (Last years model). Got a pair of Drake equaders for $175 and I think they are $350 new. Those things are tough. Had em for 2 seasons and been thru some THICK shite and they are good as new.

Not sure, first year in the club and in the swamp.
I have a box stand on hard ground i could walk/ride to but when i dont want that I can still hunt anywhere on the 3200 acres so i do plan on some scouting to find some good spots to go sit.
We do run dogs so on those days im sure ill be walking around a good bit. Water level changes with rain obviously and im sure hip boots will be fine most of the time but i dont want to find the deep hole or be limited where i can hunt because i cant cross a location

CajunCommander - going to br isnt an issue so i can check them out

Waders aren't bad when you're learning the area, and how deep the place is, but if you're walking a mile in the swamp one way and the majority is knee deep water I'd wear Lacrosse hip boots.

80% of the season I wear grange lacrosse, and that's usually not involving a 2 mile walk. You will be dying when it's 75 degrees wearing insulated chest waders though the swamp.

that is one concern i have and a big one. I cant say how far ill be walking but ill walk where ever i find the most sign at this off season. I may go with the hip boots to start and see because i was planning on getting both eventually

Why insulated? I love my breathable game winner waders. Can always layer up underneath them, but when it's hot I don't hate my life. And if you'll be scouting you'll be moving and neoprenes will got hot even in cold cold weather.

These are the ones I bought. No complaints:

i figured it would be easier than trying to layer up under them and keep my feet warm because i will be in water.
I found some lacrosse 600 gram hip boot on sale for $90 so i snagged those - if i see that ill need waders ill look into insulated/uninsulated.
I spoke with a guy on the lease and he said they use hip boots. There are deeper spots that waders are needed but they can walked around.

TheBoo - do you deer hunt in/around thibodaux?
