Can anyone recommend a good brand of ratcheting wrenches? I have been looking online and found you can spend as much or as little as you want! Is craftsman still good although not made in USA? Gear wrench?

These will be for occasional use around the house and some minor auto maintenance so I didn't want to go top dollar (snap on, Armstrong, proto....) unless it's a substantial difference in quality.

Sears has everything discounted right now 50% plus off on some things. Craftsman isn't quite what it used to be but my stuff still gets the job done.

I went the route of ease of return/warranty. There is an Autozone at every corner and their Duralast brand is decent quality. I dont see either Autozone or Duralast folding anytime soon. I cant say the same for Sears/Craftsman. The big box brand and Harbor Freight stuff is decent quality too but not every town has one close by.

I have a Craftsman mechanics set that is all USA made but I don't think you'll find one like it easily. Get a Kobalt set from Lowes. Good quality for a DIYer, have more than enough accessories for anything automotive you will run into.

After my alternator left me on the side of the road. I searched Lowes, Harbor Freight, Amazon, Sears, Autozone, ect. for a tool set in a case I could keep in my truck. The best bang for the buck ended up being the Sears Craftsman 230 Piece tool set. It was $99 and I joined Sears Shop Your Way rewards and got the price down to $89 + tax. The Craftsman set had the most sockets and didn't skip socket sizes like the other sets.

Im guessing you want a set of ratchet wrenches for the shed/shop? I don't have too much to add to the party here.

But if you work like me, and space and weight are a premium, Autozone has some Duralast ratchet wrenches. Two wrenches, eight sizes. It's not exactly what I'd want in a shop setting, but great if you can't carry a ton of tools and need several sizes.

If you don't use daily, husky, kobalt, craftsman, gear wrench will all be fine.

I still think the Craftsman brand is great middle of the road stuff. Im a Craftsman guy. I have yet to buy a bad tool from there. I recently bought the Craftsman 20 piece ratcheting wrench set and couldnt be happier.

Gearwrench. Used them daily for yrs.

Tip: Sears usually puts them on sale @ a very good price from time to time.

Not knocking the other brands, just speaking from personal experience.

Damn, I guess I'm the only person to mess up gearwrench and duralast stuff. I have opened up two gearwrench wrenches, and broken a few duralast sockets and torx bits. I won't buy either brand anymore.

I was gonna suggest a regular Craftsman kit with upgraded pro ratchets. The pro ratchets are worth the extra money if you can spring for them. If you're trying to go cheap, focus on the most complete 3/8" kit, and don't worry so much about the rest

Bought a Kobalt set a couple years ago and they're still going strong with consistent use.

Kobalt

Now that I'm not drunk I guess I can give a half decent answer. Kobalt was my first set of wrenches when I started working construction. After a few months, I stripped out the 9/16 ratchet end and rounded off the open end of another size. Bought a single 9/16 to replace it and stripped it out a while later also. Maybe their 9/16 isn't worth a shite.
The rest of the set did hold up for a solid year or so until I bought a set of huskys from Home Depot. A while later I actually snapped one in half. Got pissed off and bought gearwrenches. Got plenty back ups if they ever give out

My large kit was flooded and rusted out before I could salvage it (never used all of the parts).

I went to Stines and bought the Craftsmans ratchet set that allows the wrench to slide over long screws...it's the best thing ever. That and ratchet open end wrenches are the best!

No doubt about that. I only grab my regular ones if I have something that is hard to break loose
