Not if you clean it. But it may not cycle some semi automatics.

This.

Most of the time it's aluminum casings. I hunted a place one time that was invested with snakes. I was kinda in charge of food plots so I was up there a lot. By the time I'd killed 57 of the little bastards I said f this and changed over to my Smith riot 12 ga with 8 shot.

I was going broke buying rat shot.

I’ve killed a ton of cottonmouths and copperheads with my snub nose .357 and luckily my dad was a reloader and loaded all the rat shot I needed. He passed away a couple years ago and now I’m down to my last 25 or so rat shots. Guess it’s time to break out the snake charmer.

Or, learn how to reload yourself.

Im not a big snake lover either but there are over 70 endangered snake species in Louisiana, some very common, like water moccasin, king snakes, hog snake, garter snakes, etc. I was surprised too. This is for info only.

leave your 9mm alone, its best to get a 22 derringer and use rat shot in it, and it fits in your pocket

Yep, such a waste to use a gun that big a caliber for snakes.

Protection so they don't jump up and grab you?

I once knew an old-timer who said a water moccasin could leap 10 feet to strike you. Same fellow said that timber rattlers would "come looking for you".

I bought a 22 revolver just for this reason. But it is impossible to find any shot shells for it.

Bond Arms 4.5" derringer in .410/.45LC with 2.5" #6's works wonders

I have shot the 22 CCI rat shot and was very unimpressed with it. Pretty anemic, imo.

I much prefer the 38 Special rat shot.

I have that also. I figured the 22 would be quieter than the 38 being I live in the city limits.

My favorite snake killer is my shovel.
