Just wondering if anyone on the OB has any experience with the new dodge ram 1500 ecodiesel. I've been doing some research on them and like what I'm reading but just wanting to hear from some people that actually own one or very familiar with one. Likes/dislikes, etc. any help would be appreciated.

If you can tolerate it, I'd wait another year. Nissan will have a Cummins Titan and Chevrolet will have a Duramax Colorado. You'll have a few more options to compare it too. It's a one horse town right now.

Don't ever buy the first year of a new vehicle unless you enjoy being a test mule

Btw, OP..

if you want to wait for a ram mid size truck with a diesel, just wait till they release their mid-size Pontiac Aztec looking POS in a few years.. here are a few spy shots..

I wouldn't be too worried about the engine. VM Motori is the supplier and they only manufacturer diesels as far as I know. It's the rest of the Dodge wrapper that is the concern....

2017 Tundra will have a 5.0 Cummins. I will either be buying it or the new F250.

I'll never understand the Dodge hate. Does it all stem from the POS 4 speed transmission from the 90s? My dad's 06 is a fantastic truck. My grandfather bought a new Dodge every year until he retired(every year for a write off). They ride better than Chevy, GMC, or Ford in my experience.

My 06 F150 V6 was a terrible truck.

Daimler could have had the 5.0 Cummins in the 1500 ram if they wanted it. They wanted to source their own motor, which as far as I know is a pretty good one. Having Cummins on the valve covers is the only thing that would have made that truck sell though.

The 2.8 cummins is what should be in these trucks. The 5.0 is too big and powerful and will have disappointing fuel economy and will stuff the engine bay to the point that maintenance is impossible. Too much focus on power IMO.

A buddy of mine has one. I haven't really talked to him about it, other than he said he likes it and it gets 28mpg.

I test drove one and thought it was shockingly good.

What was also shocking was the sticker price. They are only equipping the fully loaded trucks with the ecodiesel, and they are not going on sale any time soon.

Ram has a very good truck right now. They've been selling the same engine in the Grand Cherokee for a couple of years now. The people I know who have diesel GC's love them.

Looks like a very option. Perfect sized vehicle for me.

Problem is that diesels will probably continue to be premium options in top level trims.

They need to be offered in bare-bones models with smaller displacements.

I looked all over LA for one a few months back and couldn't find one. Might be different now.
