What is your favorite powder and bullet combos?
I'm working on building an AR-10 with a 24" barrel. I want to see what it's going to be capable of at a distance of 300ish at the range. Gun isn't done yet but I'm working up some loads for to play with. I've been using IMR 4895 with 168gr A-Max and some 168gr TSX
Right now using 40-42 grains of powder.

Don't know on powders but the Sierra Match Kings in 168 or 175 grain are very accurate.. Not hunting rounds though

I have been testing 308 loads for my own AR10 as well as my son's AR10. I am shooting 168's and he is shooting 175's. I am basically trying to clone the Federal Gold Medal Match loads. While 4895 will work reasonably well, the general concensus on all of the handloading forums that I visit is that Varget is the "go to" powder for 308's with IMR 4064 being the second choice. This also mirrors what I have seen in my testing. With Varget, somewhere around 43-44 grains should put you on the neighborhood of 2600-2650 fps with accuracy.

I used h4895 and varget.
Would probably just use varget right now if you are trying to pick.
It's a very temperature stable powder and is very easy to load.

Thanks guys, looks like I need to find some Varget.
I also have some AR-Comp and Win 760.
I can use the AR-Comp on 5.56 so not worried about it. I'll find some varget and let ya'll know how it all does once I finish my build.

My Ruger GSR likes 180 grain bullets, I use both nosler partitions and ballistic tips with varget.
