same for me
ETA: I am actually considering going in on a lease in St. Gabriel with a few friends. Depending on the price, it can end up saving me a lot of money. 400$+ in license a year plus the cost of gas to get there 10+ times a year adds up. Also a lot more convenient to be in the woods in 30 minutes compared to 2 hours.

the dogs are so bad around my house you just about cant manage property or even still hunt...definitely not cheaper. ive hunted in north louisiana which was great but i had to drive through MS to get their so i just pay more for a license and less for gas.

I understand what you're saying, but the reason you see so many La hunters is pointed out in your post. There is a lot more hunting land in Ms, making it more accessible and cheaper to lease. I wont argue which river Delta produces bigger deer, because I'm sure its about identical. There may be a larger ammount of them in Ms, as I stated earlier, again because there is more land to grow them on. I hunt between tallulah and tensas in a few pieces of property, and have gotten the opportunity to hunt Edwards, Ms. I will say the woods are more beautiful and the deer are more plentiful. But when I see a deer on my place in tensas, there is about a 50% chance it's a Buck, and about 50% chance its a mature Buck.

LA has great deer.. just that swampy mucky terrain. MS is very hilly and meadow. Lots of water sources and better conditions.

Yeah. The hill land I hunt is probably very similar to the hill land you hunt in Edwards and the Delta land I hunt is probably the type deal as your LA land. I'm not completely familiar with all the parishes but isn't the the two you mention in the LA delta? I really don't know, so correct me if I'm wrong.
Just from what I've seen on here and in the two outdoor magazines for both states, I'm under the impression that what y'all call the marsh is not as good as what we call the hills and our deltas are about the same.

You're correct. Both of the aforementioned parishes are in the Delta land in northeast la. But some of the south la people call the marshy area at the mouth of the Mississippi river the Delta. But yes, the land in northeast la is much like the land in Northwest Ms. The swamp in he southern part of the state can produce big arse deer, but a lot of coonasses shoot everything in the woods. The only deer that get big are the smart ones that get in places that hunters can't go, and become nocturnal.

Yeah. The same thing happens in the hills here. If you can find the right spot, you can have a pretty good club or lease. The problem, just like everywhere else, is whether or not your neighbors are on the same page.

I've also wondered the same thing...

I have to agree with Nico, however this is something new. Only recently has La started producing a decent amount of big deer. Ms has more quality deer but La produces bigger deer. As to why a lot of La hunters hunt Ms. Well more cheaper, land, for the most part. Also most people have been hunting Ms since the 80, when it was true that Ms not only had more deer but bigger deer.

Hill land. It's probably ok hunting.
I hunt in NW MS, right where the bluff drops off into the Delta. I am fortunate to be able to hunt this area, as it consistantly produces pretty good deer. Now that I think of it, I don't think I would like to hunt anywhere in MS except the bluff/Delta or the big black bottom. The rest is probably pretty much the same as far as what you would see in LA except for maybe NE LA...

The delta on both sides of the river are each state's bread and butter, and both produce comparable deer. Mississippi's pine thicket/hill deer are probably a little better. Miss definitly gets the nod in public land/WMA's.

But seriously, Madison county probably kills the biggest deer in the state every year.

Bienville parish for me. But I can understand why people from southeast LA would go to MS. I'm just lucky enough to have grown up in a area with amazing deer production.

I hunt in ms because thats where our land is. Our land is there because its cheap, and I live in new orleans so its easy to get to.
