Are regular 1911 magazines compatible? If I have a Kimber or Wilson 8 round .45 magazines will they work in my Delta? They seem to be interchangeable and the 8 round .45 will hold 9 rounds of 10mm. I haven't shot with them yet but wondering if anyone else has tried it.

Nvm, broke my rule of never speaking in absolutes on here

10mm mag

45acp mag

Notice the ridge on the 10mm mag that keeps the rounds centered on the bore

Can't say I've tried it and I have a 45 also. Looking at the pics posted above, I'd venture to say it probably won't work due to the differences on the follower.

Have you tried loading a 45 mag with 10mm and cycling it thru the DE by racking the slide?

I did and it worked flawlessly. I googled it and got differing answers. I may try it for just target shooting but not hunting or self defense but that extra round could be nice.

Also, if I hold both side by side the mags are identicle. I'll take a pic of the follower. I really don't remember that much difference on the follower.

Haven't done this with a Delta Elite, but my buddy has the RIA 10mm and it cycles just fine with regular 45cal mags loaded with 10mm.

I really don't know why it wouldn't work. Mags are virtually the same. Follower is slightly different.

Next time I'm at the range I'm going to try my 45 mags in the DE and also try my DE mags in my 45.

As you said, I doubt I'd ever use it if I had it on my side while hunting but can't hurt to have the knowledge of knowing if it works or not.

I will tell you this CD, the 45 rounds wont fit in a 10mm mag on the Armscor mags. The feed lips are too narrow.

All my mags are factory Colt mags for both guns. I'll check the fit on both before I do anything.

It worked. Shot two mags through my stainless delta with a Kimber 45 stock mag.

These are the two magazines side by side

10mm on the left
Kimber .45 on the right.

Another shot:
Again, colt 10mm left and Kimber .45 right.

Took my Delta out this afternoon and tried .45 mags and it functioned perfectly.
