notice a difference between perdovik and black oil sunflowers varities? this is in west feliciana area, ie silty to sandy soil type, at most 20% clay content.
im still planting 8 acs of millet but want to try some sunflowers for a test to see wht the dove want.

We've done sunflowers before and didn't have as good as results. Not sure what variety. Whichever sunflowers seeds are in the big bags of bird seed. Go with that

Never hunted doves much, but I have about 3 acres in one of my old man's cow fields I can use....what should I plant? And when? Just hoping for 1 maybe 2 shoots..

Any of them can do just as good as the next as long as you manage them right.

This.....unless your neighbor has a competing goat weed patch lol.

Seriously either one should be fine, I've planted both with success for both ducks and doves.

Just know that you can't just throw them out, you need to use some herbicides and fertilizer.

This. I sprayed roundup with a light shot of 24D about a month ago. Last weekend I drug it to rake off the "hay"/dead grass and scratch the surface. Planted. Then drug it one last pass to try to cover it a little. A lot of seed was still exposed. It rained 2 days later.

I'll spread a little fertilizer on it in a few weeks once I know it took.

Eta: The day I went to drag and plant it, 3 doves jumped out of the road next to my planting strip. I was all like...
