How long does it take to get approved by the State of Louisiana once you send the application in?

To become an instructor or for your permit?

If for individual permits and not instructors, mine was approved in 3 weeks. However, this was 3 years ago.

to become an instructor. Sorry for not being more precise in my wording.

Don't remember -- been a long time.

FWIW the LSP Handgun Permit Unit has a new commander -- not sure if this will slow up anything while he gets up to speed.

For me, the entire process for getting official approval was about 5-6 months.

I took an NRA basic pistol instructor class in Lafayette under Shane Robichaux. It was a two-day course.

Then I had to wait for my official paperwork to come back from the NRA, which took about 2-3 months.

Then after getting that in, I had to officially register with LSP. I turned in my paperwork (outlined on the LSP website) to get approved. It took me about 2-3 months there as well. Once I was approved, they never really told me. I just had to follow up and check every week.

By that same token, my friend who took the class with me got through the process with LSP much quicker than me. I really think it depends when the person approving the applications decides to do them.

So to sum up, I would guess anywhere from 2-6 months most likely. It's hard to put an exact figure on it.

thanks man. that is what I was looking for. I am wondering if it will be faster due to the whole online application process now.

I think the instructor process will be able the same amount of time.

But the speed of CHL permits now has sped up to unreal levels.
