My husband has me researching this for him and I can't find the info anywhere on the DMV website. He is looking at buying al fishing boat from a guy in Florida. I found all the info on LDWF about registering the boat in Louisiana, but I can't find any information about registering the trailer. The guy told him that Florida does not title the trailer. So, will a bill of sale be sufficient? And, after you get it, do you just go to DMV. I read somewhere else that you had to have State Police inspect the trailer. Any help will be much appreciated.

you will need a bill of sale for the out of state trailer and then you'll need to bring the trailer(boat can be on it) to a local, parish or state police office for them to inspect it. They will give you a certificate of inspection and then you can go to the DMV to register it.

You'll also need to go to your local tax office to get a paper showing that you don't need to pay taxes on it since it's from out of state and a private sale.

I had to do all of this when I bought my boat from a private seller in Alabama, who also doesn't require boat trailer registration.

I bought a boat from Florida

DMV will require a separate Bill Of Sale for the trailer and you will need a letter from the florida DMV
or
some other proof when and where the trailer was previously registered.

I did not do this

and therefore my boat trailer is still not registered.

Really appreciate this info. Trying to navigate Louisiana's DMV is a nightmare. Found nothing on the website, so I tried calling them today and got a recording saying that their volume of calls was so high that they were not taking any more calls!! Can you believe that. So, I came here for info.
