My BIL just bought an X-Bolt in 30-06 and hung a VX-I on it that he already had. I told him to upgrade the scope and I'd buy it from him since he blew out his back and can't hunt or shoot for a good while. Would rather get the .300 short mag, though, and set it up how I want it.

Make sure you get a scope with a 30mm tube not a 1" tube that's the key. You will be very happy with the 3x12x56 for $650-$900

I was looking at the Meostar 3-10x50 with a 30 mm tube.

The 56 might be more than I need.

Thanks for all the info guys.

The 30 mm tube is the cake. The 56 mm is just the icing on top... or something like that.

Again the VX3 is not on the same level with the Meopta Meostar 3x12x56 with the 30mm tube. Hell they aren't even in the same ballpark.

I have read a lot of the last few days and it seems the Meopta (all be it not as popular as others) is a mack daddy scope.

It can only be compared to the Zeiss Conquest and it's almost half the price.

Exactly. I was a longtime Leopold believer I had one on every rifle I owned. I complained to my cousin about low light shooting troubles and out he comes with his new Meopta. I hunted with it one afternoon and it was great. It's hard to spend that kind of money on a scope that you know nothing about but I'm telling you it's worth every penny.

I have a Meopta 3-12 x 56. I do really like the scope and for the 650 I paid it is a great scope. I can always see past shooting time with great claerity. This is important where we hunt as a screw up is a 5,000 mistake. I have a leoplod with similar demisions, Meopta is a step up, much clearer glass. I have been impressed with it so far. Easy to use and adust. However, I am looking into getting a german glass scope for my new rifle, and will most likely get a Zeiss or Sworsk. I would recommend either Meopta (american made) or the Zeiss, but remember a Ziess Conquest for that price is there bottom line model.

Did you have to get special scope rings to fit the 56 bell?

Or is the same as the 50?

you just need rings to fit the 30mm tube. The 56 mm allows you a greater field of view and it gathers more light. It does kinda appear bulky at first but, once you start hunting with it you wouldnt go back.

Yeah I did on my Ruger. I had buy new rings when I went to the 50 also.

I can get one on Sporting Optics for $799 or the 3-10X50 for $649..

I guess I need to make up my mind.

There is a somewhat local shop (about 15 miles from here) that sells them. I want to go look and see how much of a difference there is.

I will say it depends how far you shoot, we hunt alot of pipelines and we have huge food plots. I can tell you this is as a significant difference in the 10 power to 12 power. I now want a 14 or 15 power scope. You can identify deer easlier and makes it slighly easier to shoot longer. As far as the 50 mm to 56mm. I think you let the power determine that matter, but I have been really pleased with the 56mm. I awlays feel comfortable shooting till the last leagl min and somehtime a few after even at long ranges. Shot a 10 point at 450 yards over thanksgiving at dark 30, but it had plenty of light. It seems I got it for under 700 though at Bowie Outfitters about two or three years ago.
