Haven't decided on 9 vs 40 either, so you can chime in on that too if ya want.

What ya think? Beretta or S&W?

M&P 9mm, Apex trigger kit is a must.

If those are the only two options.

In my opinion, Glock 17 or 19. But definitely try everything out to see if you like it.

I hated the trigger on the M&P before and after the Apex upgrade. Lots of people swear by the apex trigger.

I love my 9mm Storm. The trigger is pure love.

As for caliber, if the shite hits the fan, I'd rather my chances with 18 rounds of 9mm than 15 rounds of .40. The 9mm also supposedly has twice the effective range as the .40/.45 variants.

I was in the same exact situation about a year ago debating over the same two guns. I am a left handed shooter so I was looking for something ambidextrous. Though the PX4 and M&P both offer ambidextrous safeties and mag releases, only the M&P offers a slide releases on both sides of the gun as well. Because of this and the fact that I found the grip to be a little more comfortable decided to go with the full sized M&P 9mm.

A year later I never once regretted my decision. It's accurate, reliable and shoots great.

I haven't shot the storm compact model, so I can't help you there. If you decide on the M&P and want a compact model, I would definitely check out the new shield. My 9c is easily concealable, but the shield is even better.

Really? What complaint do you have about it? It's definitely a long pull in double-action, but it's a short, light squeeze in single-action. That said, I haven't shot the 40, but I can't imagine it having a much heavier pull.

It's basically a single stack version of the M&P. I haven't shot it yet but buddy of mine just got one and he loves it.

The only trick is they are in pretty high demand right now so they are kind of hard to find.

Know some military guys that find some berettas jam a bit more than they'd like but I always considered S&W to be a little too proud of their name. I'd go with the M&P. As far as caliber, I'd go with what you're more comfortable shooting. Both have sufficient power and expansion. Capacity shouldn't be an issue. If you can't hit it with 15 rounds, 18 isn't going to make much difference. Then again, I'm a wheel gun fan.
