They really are the best dogs. I've only owned Goldens and he's the second one. Beautiful dogs!

I had to put my 12 y/o Yellow Lab down in April. My daughter had never seen me cry before, but that dog was a great companion. Vet handled it so well, i will never go elsewhere.

Around 11:30 today we put my buddy to rest. By far the hardest thing I've ever had to do in my lifetime. I'm at peace with it because I know he is no longer suffering. It's gonna take some time getting use to not seeing him when I go back home but I'll always remember the good times we had together. Once again I appreciate the kind words and prayers.

Sorry for your loss man. You lost family. No other way to look at it. My boxer is getting up in age and I dread that day. The one thing that sucks about dogs is that you know you just about always outlive them.

Sorry for your loss. We just put out Golden down about a month ago. You did the right thing. Hang in there.

<--- I have to put my guy down two weeks ago. One of the hardest things I ever had to do. He was 13 with bad hips and we made a quality of life decision. At the end the poor guy couldn't stand up on his own.

It sucks and there will be a hole in your heart for a while. Sorry for your loss, they truly become family.

There is little more gut-wrenching than putting down your dog. We put our black Lab down 2 and a half years ago, and that was the most I had cried in 20+ years.

Relish the 9 years you had with your Golden and let time heal your broken heart. Prayers sent for you and your furry best friend.

Sorry again, but I'm sure it was the right thing. It stinks though, but when it's time it's time.

Take some time, then get a pup..

All dogs go to heaven. One miracle is as easy as the next. Google the rainbow bridge poem. The language is a little cheesy but I do believe in God and heaven and that our dogs will be there with us. You did th right thing for your best friend.

Sorry for your loss bud. That's a hard moment, but you did right. Our dogs absolutely become a member of the family. I feel like God put them here to be companions, helpers, lookouts, and protectors. However, they are only meant to be with us for a short time.

My wife's dog (feist mix...looked like a little lab in the face, but had a curled tail and a black spotted tongue) took off after something in the yard Christmas Eve night this past year, and ended up getting hit on the highway. As poor as the timing was, there is always a silver lining. We found out a week later that wife was pregnant.

We got a Brittany in February and absolutely love her

Had to put down a black Lab due to cancer. My daughter did it. She had just got out of Vet school at the time. Told me to date that it was very hard on her .

A friend shared this with me when I lost my last dog I have shared it with several people here but it never gets old sorry for your loss.

JUST A DOG

From time to time, people tell me, "lighten up, it's just a dog,"
or "that's a lot of money for just a dog."

They don't understand the distance travelled, the time spent,
or the costs involved for "just a dog."

Some of my proudest moments have come about with "just a dog."

Many hours have passed and my only company was "just a dog,"
but I did not once feel slighted.

Some of my saddest moments have been brought aobut by
"just a dog," and in those days of darkness, the gentle touch
of "just a dog" gave me comfort and reason to overcome the day.

If you, too, think it's "just a dog," then you probably understand
phrases like "just a friend," "just a sunrise," or "just a promise."

"Just a dog" brings into my life the very essence of friendship,
trust, and pure unbridled joy.
"Just a dog" brings out the compassion and patience
that make me a better person.
Because of "just a dog" I will rise early, take long walks and look
longingly to the future.

So for me and folks like me, it's not "just a dog"
but an embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of the future,
the fond memories of the past, and the pure joy of the moment.

"Just a dog" brings out what's good in me and diverts my thoughts
away from myself and the worries of the day.

I hope that someday they can understand that its' not "just a dog"
but the thing that gives me humanity and keeps me from being
"just a man" or "just a woman."

So the next time you hear the phrase "just a dog,"
just smile,
because they "just don't understand."
