Shot one of those with my BB gun when I was a youngn. My paran who likes attracting different birds to his bird houses was PISSED. Didn't realize their relevance at the time.

Our first to the yard was Sunday in Ellic. Saw bass on a bed Saturday. Redbuds are blooming.

Only person I've known actually from there is TA. I went to school with guys from just about all the little towns along the river though. Even know one from Transilvania.

I'd love to have a Martin house but from what I've been reading it takes at least a 40 foot diameter clearing around the house or they won't use it. Larger if any of the trees are tall (pine for one). Does anyone have martin houses closer to trees that are successful? Supposedly the Martin's won't use them because hawks will hang out in the trees and pick them off.

The first Martn "scouts" (they are not really "scouting") showed up in the Florida panhandle a little over a week ago. There have also been a couple of sightings of Swallow-tailed Kites which is very early for them.

You'd be surprised where they'll take up residence. Don't listen to the rules, put up one of the gourds and see.
If you get a nesting pair then you'll know. I've had them nest under a live oak before...
