I have recently relocated to Atlanta for work. Does anyone from the area have recommendations on good public deer hunting areas in Georgia withing decent driving distance of Atlanta. I will be looking to join a club next year, I just don't have the extra cash at the moment.

good luck, you are going to probably drive quite a bit to get there. Where are you in Atl, what are you hunting?

Try this link: GA WMA Areas

I live in Cumming, GA but have a lease near Dublin, GA. Some of the WMA areas in Forsyth County are bow only.

I have a bunch of friends that hunt the WMA areas only and kill a lot of deer.

Yeah, the firearms areas tend to be a bit away from ATL

LINK another link that might help

A lot of these areas are hard to find definitive answers online, you must call the local WMA office

That is tough. The Atlanta Metro area is so big and populated that you have to drive a good distance. I live in Columbus, I believe there is WMA land around Standing Boy Creek, but I believe they have some gun restrictions. I would have to ask my brother. He has huntes it. It is in Harris County. It is a 2 hour drive for you (my office is in Alpharetta). I don't know much about the WMA due to hunting private land in Harris and Taylor counties and my brother no longer hunts it due to having sizable leased lands in Alabama by his house on Lake Harding. Good luck finding a place.

I will ask some of my buddies in N GA if they know of any places.

I wouldn't mind bow only. This will be my first time hunting public land, so bow only would make me feel a lot more comfortable hunting around other people

I'm in Cumming as well, From Marietta, the closest I know of would be Paulding Forest or Allatoona. But I have no clue about any deer there. I have hunted Dawson Forest back in the day, but never really saw anything. Heading out to Greene county in a few hours, hopefully they are chasing out there, saw one chasing in the neighborhood this morning.

Nope. Once a month these days. I used to drive to Sandy Springs every dat when I was building the Sprint LTE system in the Atlanta market. My office was in the King building. Before that I worked our of Suwanee.

It helps that I have always had a company truck or rental with a fuel card. Now I cover Southwest GA only.

Good luck. I've looked for places to hunt Ducks near Atlanta and decided that I will drive back to LA to get my hunting fix. Sorry I've been no help.

However, I may pick up a bow and look for bow only wma, but I'm still technically a La resident so a hunting license is quite expensive for me in GA.
