Is there ant public goose hunting opportunities on the western side of Louisiana that aren't firing lines along the edges of refuges? I have a several hundred snow, blue, speck and canada dekes I would love to put to use somewhere, most full bodied field decoys but some floaters as well, and our goose hunting in Eastern New Mexico is pretty hit or miss. I know there ain't much more than firing lines in Texas and I have some good fields in SE Colorado but it is as far as SE Louisiana. Anything at all?

Is this the unofficial OB mega spread goose hunt thread?

I'm checking in with 48 shells, and about 300 rags tied into wind socks.

Hovering somewhere around 5-600

They tried a 10000 rag spread in TX around 10 years ago. Heard they didn't have much luck lol

Negative ghost rider. You'd be lucky to find public ground to shoot geese on consistently.

That is surprising if they were around birds.

I wonder how many acres 10,000 goose decoys would cover?

Gonna need more than that. Maybe twice as many, minimum.

Don't know about western side, but it is possible in Venice. Uncle and his friends used to shoot them from time to time few years back. We killed 2 last year over our duck decoys. Had a group of 75 circle our pond multiple times last year and they wanted to land so bad. Decoys and a call may have sealed the deal.

We don't hunt them so I can't tell you when and where but maybe someone like Da Hammer can shed some light.

I mean you can do that at Sabine and Lac. Don't get me wrong. But there's nowhere id "specifically" target geese around our area. I see tons of specs in Sabine but they hardly ever work close enough
