Took my seven year old fishing Friday evening. First few spots not much. Then last spot was loaded with redfish. Between 7:15 and dark as fast as we could cast they were consistently biting. We have a few country songs that are "our" songs. Watching You, My Old Man and Best day of my Life (all dad and son songs) and such that I have on a playlist. All three songs we both were fighting fish at the same time. He told me afterwards that he said a prayer that we would catch on those songs. Was the best 2-3 hours of my life. Made me really enjoy life and will reach for that memory quite often.

My son will be 2 in Sept. Every single part of their life is fun for a dad. There are just different things about each one that are a joy. I love the age my son is at. He is an absolute hoot. But I also miss the newborn stage. There is something that feels so right about holding them at that age.

Speak of the devil. He just woke up as I was typing. Yippee.

Had my oldest son when I was 19 so we pretty much grew up together. He is 18 now and moving into his dorm at USM on the 11th. I remember a lot of the firsts we shared like it was yesterday. Even being young they will remember these times for the rest of their lives and look forward to making those same memories with their own kids one day. I take that as I did a good job..

Oh and our song heading to the deer lease the first year I started bringing him was Chickenfried, we jam heading out and back to the camp every time..

Awesome. That's what it's all about. My 3 yr old son said he wanted to ride the boat Friday, so we loaded up and went. I was expecting him to get bored quick, like he often does. He sat and ate snacks and told me to fish so he could watch. We had a great afternoon.

Yep, someone's cutting them over here too.

Making me think of all the good fishing memories with my dad and brother. Luckily my dad is still around and healthy. Still trying to make as many as possible. Hoping he can make plenty with his grandsons too.

Awesome job OP. Make as many memories as you can. Life is short.

I can't recall a single day in my entire life I've been on a boat with my Dad. Did some bullshite canepole fishing with him way back when I was a dumb kid, but as much as I enjoy getting after the specs and reds, we've never been out there together.

Would give anything for him and me to be able to do that...So sear this afternoon into your memory bro. Cherish it.

Signed,

I have a 3 year old and one on the way. I can't wait for fishing trips like that with him.

My dad and I went fishing many times when I was a kid (we were bank fishermen). Days like that will stick with a boy. We caught 50-60 crappie one morning in cold and windy conditions, but I would've stayed out there for days if he'd let me. Matter of fact, I can remember all of my "great days" and all of my biggest catches of various species

Yea we have a camp in Lafitte and are there and fish a lot. But as you know you have a lot of uneventful trips. But every now and then you get that one magic one that sticks out. Fortunately my dad took me a lot and still goes. Actually he and my 13 year old nephew were fishing in another boat just a few minutes from us.

I agree with a previous poster. Each age is so unique. His first boat ride to the camp, he was 3 months old. I remember at younger ages he started wanting fishing shirts like me and anything else he could get to copy me and of course had his toy fishing pole. Now at 7, all he wants to fish with is a gold spoon and would put him against some adults as far as casting and fishing . I don't understand dad's that don't give a s*** about their kids and neglect them and feel so sorry for the kids. Kids are the most precious and priceless thing on earth and I love and cherish every minute of it.

lol I know I now sound sappy but been walking on air since Friday night. Lol.
