This big boy and I crossed paths this weekend. Heard him behind me before I turned to see him slithering by at about 2 feet.

My nerves still ain't right. Neither are his.

Not me in the pic (my brother); I'm off to the side changing drawers.

What did you do with the snake after? I always thought it would be bad arse to have one mounted.

We are. Was going to skin it out, but my buddy said he wanted to mount it if he could, so he's got it.

those things are pretty docile. Alx and i almost stepped on a 4' one while scouting in BCNWR. After we shite our pants, i poked at it with my bow for a bit. could not force it to coil or strike. Had same experience with a smaller one along the trial at Chicot.

What'd you kill it with.......he seems to still be intact.

I would have separated the head.

That has to be one of the biggest timber rattlers I've ever seen! How many rattles did it have?

That is a bullet hole. Weapon of choice was a 9 mm.

When I saw him I expressed my dismay in terms that may have been only marginally less colorful than the snake. Dad had a 45, and he stopped and turned around and we opened fire.

First two shots went over him (due to close range and terror). Dad's 2nd shot pegged him and hissed opened his mouth. I shot him in the mouth. That's the exit wound on the head.

I'm pretty sure that's the sequence. We were pretty keyed up and had to count rounds to see how many total shots we'd fired.

I've got a couple more pics I'll try to get on a hosting site and get up on the board.

I video of me trying to kill that with my S&W 9mm with a behind the head shot would be pretty entertaining.
