Assuming rough terrain and lots of use -- Polaris.

I was mainly concerned about maintenance/mechanical issues outside oil change

Bearings
Seals
ect

I’m not really int in spending 500-1000 every year after hunting season

Left both and went back to Honda in the last 3 years. Best decision I ever made. Have no idea why I was ever so stupid to leave Honda to begin with. I knew better. Damn advertising and peer pressure cost me thousands...….again.

I put the poly aftermarket dump bed on my Honda. Same capacity as the others. I also did that with my Mule because the metal one rusted out so quick.

Not a SxS but my Polaris 700 EFI Twin 4x4 wore out a set of CVs at all 4 corners and the back axles twice in 3000 miles. Doodoocaca.

get the ranger. better 4wd system to avoid being stuck on rougher terrain.

Know Honda isn't what you asked about specifically, but as a Honda ATV guy, I had a really hard time giving any money to a Polaris dealer, even though that's what seemingly everyone under the sun was recommending for a SxS.

The Rangers seemed cheaply built, just as their ATVs were so many years ago. Honda (Pioneer 700) is no frills, but it's clearly Honda all the way around. Built well, utilitarian, and it just runs and gets you back. Just was my experience about a year ago, no regrets.

The new mule is the more reliable unit and to be honest with you they are currently eating up the market share from a brand that has been stagnant for years.

If they still made an 800 Ranger that's what I would buy, but they don't.

Have 1000 motor in my general, power is absolutely amazing. But even with regular maintenance I don't feel like it's going to hit the high mileage of the Japanese brands. Oil analysis on the motor shows great wear no issues but it just feels loose.

What are you actually going to be doing with the bike?

Unless you're going to need to run 28in tires, just get the pioneer 700. It's low on power, but it doesn't break.

If you are cool with just enough power to turn 30s. The Yamaha Viking is a great unit. Very reliable.

Comparing the 570 and 900 ranger to the kawi, go kawi all day every day.

Ranger 1000 vs Yamaha 850 or Honda 1000...

I'd go Yamaha then Honda then Polaris.

This is coming from someone who has all except the Kawasaki.

Of the two choice you have listed I would go with the Mule Pro FXT. They are really nice bikes, tough, super quiet, and very comfortable. Smooth as a caddilac too. You're gonna be changing out wheel bearings every 100 miles in a ranger if you want your tires to be level and wear evenly.

I don't know if they're still made but you used to be able to buy bronze inserts that had grease fittings in them so you could Grease the bearings.

It's bullshite that you pay $12k+ for a sxs and still have to add something to it to keep it from falling apart. The first hunting side by sides, the mule 3010, and the rhino 660 where bulletproof. Seems like they've only went downhill from there in terms of reliability.

I mean you can still buy a Viking which is just a heavily armored rhino

Better skid plates better axles better fuel pump design and a better driver position
