I like to grow green/red romaine and butter crunch.

My pepper plants had a big bloom a couple weeks back and I was able to pick a milk crate full of red, yellow, and orange peppers. I'm waiting to see if they'll do another bloom.

Romaine does well. I bought a pack of mixed lettuce seeds a few years back and they all did decent, but the romaine flourished

So I just fenced in my backyard, and I'd love to grow a lot of the things you guys are suggesting (beets, brussel sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, etc.), but I have no idea where to even begin. Do you just plant them in the ground with good compost/soil?

Please help....Any good websites for first time growers?

Raised beds are the easiest way to start. You'll need 6-8 inches of soil depth. Raised beds dry out quicker than in ground garden, so you'll have to watch that as well as the soil shrinking over time.

You'll need a place that drains well and gets plenty of sun. You can either till up a place and make rows or make raised beds (or use containers).

Here's another guide from the Extension Service.

I always do spring garden. Thinking of doing what you are with mustard greens, onions, broccoli.

My pumpkin vine is 12 foot long and huge leaves. i have blooms but no pumpkins. When should I see a pumpkin?

This was my first year planting pumpkins as well. Have you noticed any bees around your blooms? As long as your female flowers get pollinated you should start to see little pumpkin bulbs develop right beneath the female flower. It also depends on when you planted them. What I planted takes 90-120 days to produce and I'm just now seeing some.

You are in the same spot I am in right now. I've been dusting mine for bugs as well. I found a bunch of those orange ant looking things on there 2 days ago. Read the article, it has a bunch of good info on pumpkins. Talks about the different flowers as well as pollinating techniques.
ETA: The time table is for Yankees who have planted way before us here in La.

Thanks! I finally was able to spot a few female blooms at the end of the vine. The first 10 foot is a sausage fest.

Planted a week ago. Mustards, kale, broccoli, colliflower, cabbage, brussel

I was gonna do that but I wanted to wait till some of this hot weather left.

and as far as worms on broccoli, yep every year. Just throw some seven dust on them.

I found some stuff that is better than seven dust. Seven dust didn't help me out much in the spring. Its called Bug B Gon Max.

I'm thinking of romaine instead of cabbage.
