I've got a 3 acre lot that was laser leveled two years ago. I didn't plant any grass I've just been cutting whatever volenteer grass and weeds that came up. The lot was a bean field before this. I want to plant it with grass but really don't wante to spend $4,500 on seed and am not going to have a sprinkler setup to water. I don't care that much about grass but don't want to have a dirt and mud yard. A buddy of mine told me to get grass clippings from a lawn service and just keep speading them around my yard and some grass would seed from that and it would help add nutrients to the soil. Is there any seed that wouldn't be so high and has anyone heard of starting from clippings? I live in between Baton Rouge and Lafayette.

You could probably buy fescue or Bermuda seeds from the local co-op.

Wouldn't need to spread either too thick.
