Planning a coastal charter in LA

OB -- planning on going on a coastal fishing charter with my dad and probably brother this summer. I am interested in specks and reds mostly. Any suggestions on who to use for the charter, best time of the summer to go, possible locations (Venice, Cocodrie, etc?)?
I'm thinking 3 days would be awesome if the price isn't too bad.
Guide can't be a cocky douche -- ran into that previously and it really sucked the fun out of the day.
I personally prefer to not use live bait, but I know my dad and brother will want to go that route. I'll go live bait if catching them on plastics or top water isn't successful.
Thanks for the tips!

Sorry about that! I checked the guys website -- very impressed. he lunch option for 3 people at $600 a day would be the type of thing I am looking for. No idea how those rates compare to the rest of the guys that do this.

Where was your bad experience at?

My Dad has been out of Hopedale/ Delacrioux area the past 2 days on a guided trip with work and vendors. He is sending me the information for the people he lodged and fished with tomorrow when he gets back home.
El Josey Wales and I are going with Eric Dumas on Pontchartrain in a few weeks. I also just booked a trip out of Slidell at Dockside Marina this Friday for my father-in-law, myself, and hopefully one more.

Guy out of Venice. He does TV shows on some local channels in LA. My brother and I were kids (probably 10-13) and he just wasn't a nice guy. He fished from the front of the boat and caught more fish than the rest of us combined.

Yeah, he was a pretty young guy at the time (probably early 30s). Totally looked the part and is a very good fisherman...just not the best guide.

Is it a Ballay? Brandon Carter? Was it for inshore or offshore fishing? I'm from there but am stumped. They have so many guides now.
I had one bad experience with a venice guide but it was for a bluewater trip.

this was about 10 years ago...he used to do a show on CST..he would always take out a group of La. Businessmen or someone that sponsored his shows..Like Zatarain's, and the whole time he would plug their business or product
and FTR I am not recommending him, I am just trying to figure out who he is.....
