Pirogue seat height for paddling?

I feel like an a-hole for making another small boat thread, but I need help. From the research I have done, this is apparently a 12 foot Pro Gator "lil gator" pirogue.

I stripped it down, just plan on putting new seats and paint on it. I mainly want to duck hunt with it and occasionally fish.

Main question is about the seat bases. are they too high to comfortably paddle this boat? If I need to, I can cut the tops off of them, throw some plywood in there and seal it for a lower seat base. I can't run a motor on it at all, my dad has had this thing for years, he is in Afghanistan and my mom has no clue where the papers might remotely be, so no chance of registration renewal.

I think the seat bases are fine where they are.

Regarding re-registering the boat, we had an old bateau that hadn't been registered since the 90's that we had long since lost registration for. We called WLF and they were able to re-register it no problem since my dad was the last person to register it and we still had the numbers for it (looks like you do too). I don't think getting it registered would be a problem at all. You might have to pay a small fee, but nothing too bad.

To me, that boat looks like it would be a bitch to paddle.

Awesome, thanks for the help man! My dad will be back from Afghanistan in October, so I will let him give it a shot at re-registering.

I am going to get some of those $20 seats from Bass Pro to throw in there, then sand down and paint. Put a couple of straps on each side for gun / paddle holder.

Single paddle or double blade? I might try a few out at Bickham Dickson (somewhere quick to test).

Thanks KR! I had my doubts about it, but it is a hell of a lot lighter than I expected.

Neat little rig. I would think a double yak style paddle would be best.

If you're going to go the double sided paddle route, make sure you get the longest kayak paddle they make. They come in different lengths, and the added length will make a huge difference in ease of paddling.

re: Pirogue seat height for paddling?
Will do on the long paddle. The boat was a shite hole before I cleaned it out, my dad has been in Iraq / Afghan for the last 6 years so nothing has been touched. I am thinking of a flat green / camo paint job, as this will be used mostly for duck hunting. By the time I'm done, I hope to have only $100 max in it.

The cheapest paddle i've found was $60. Only realy looked at a couple of stores though.
I printed a shadow grass pattern and cut it out of a disposable cutting board for my stencil. I will find a pic.

re: Pirogue seat height for paddling?
I am guessing an 8 foot paddle should do the trick?

I see the Ascend paddles at BPS for $50, but they max out at 230 cm (7.5 ft.), would I be missing out on anything with the difference in a few inches?

Seat bases are fine. Just get a longer paddle.

It's not going to be too hard to paddle that boat, not as easy as a one man but not as hard as my cousins two man water mocassin when we ran out of juice in the batt.

I'm researching these paddles right now, trying to find one that won't break the bank that is long enough. I just want to get the right paddle the first time but the centimeters and inches shite is wearing me out.

I kind of want to cut that front seat deck out, but I think I'll leave it just in case anyone wants to tag along, and I can use it for storage underneath.

I did some more looking for paddles. There are several for $25 and up. Sears has one that I may get for the light duty paddling I do in my pirogue.
