Bought some pecan trees without doing my research. Got home with 3 varieties, desirable, sumner, and creek. Well, after planting threm and then doing research.....well, the short version is this, how important is cross pollination?? The sumners and desirables are about 250 feet apart.

Here is a Chart. to help you out. On a pecan tree the male and female flowering parts mature at different times to prevent self pollination.

Doesn't look like the sumner will work with the creek.

Short answer: if you have natives in the somewhat near vicinity you should be OK. And based on this chart you should be OK. I don't think the 250 ' will be a problem.

LSU AgCenter has a similar chart.
