We need to develop a packing list.
I know everyone will bring their own gear. But if we are camping as a group do you want everyone to bring their own rations? Or break it up amongst who is going. I have a couple gas double burner camp stoves and cast iron and have no issue with it being community stuff. I can also bring a coffee pot.
What about fire wood??
Do we want to agree that everyone bring

I agree on developing a list. That will be less stuff to bring. List would generally be firewood, cooking equipment, general food (bacon, oil, onions, sandwich meat, etc.), etc. Everything else would be up to each boat going.

Keep in mind those that stay with me will be on land and will just need to contribute with some food and booze. We will eat ribeyes first night and duck gumbo and maybe fried fish the second night.
I will state again if you all want to bypass the camping I have a private motel next to me that has rooms with full cooking set ups and sleeps four I can get the rooms for $150/night. If some were to do that they could follow me down river even if I'm guiding that weekend and we could all use my camp as a home base to cook eat and socialize.
If not we can socialize a little bit at the campsites but I'm not driving the boat up and down river after drinking very much. Once at a camp/hotel we can drink and not worry about driving a truck/boat.

Yeah,we plan on camping at Swansons. Don't have to wake up as early and hunting is real close to the camp.

Hammer I think I fished with you a few summers ago with a group of eyeball guys. I think Dr Boudreaux and I will be making a trip down during the holidays. We expect your best guide naturally.

There used to be a spot of the 2nd pass on right off S pass on corner of runout. Spot was awesome, could leave in pirouge and be shooting ducks in minutes.

Capt you are correct I was one of the "guides" on that trip.
Your camping spot right on sawdust bend has had a lot of ducks close their eyes by me in that area. I might check that area out if you make it down there... hint hint
We have been doing so well I told a friend I might take a BB gun down next split and try and kill my limit we have been doing that well.

Fish I will work on fixing that for you. If you hit a spell where you aren't feeling well I'll bring you to the rice lease and I'll drop you off at the blind with the 4 wheeler and you can shoot and drink coffee

Looks like I need to visit you when down there.
I'm usually down there every couple weeks for the weekend but I have been camping down the river lately near pilottown. Cleaned a buck (sat 11/15) across the street from you by my cousins though.

You've been doing well on the deer down there this year. That's good, I haven't hunted deer down there in ages. I still like running the banks with rifle in hand for hogs and trying to fill the boat up with carnage.

Hammer, do you guide in the area or are you just doing that thing for DU?
Posted on 12/5/14 at 12:46 pm to Larry Gooseman
No I don't guide at all at least not anymore. I have plenty friends that do. A friend and I always donate a hunt to the Mandeville/Covington Du banquet and that's about as much "guiding" as I will do.
If you need a recommendation down there I can help point you in the right direction.

To make sure I understand correctly, you can/can't guide on WMA's in LA?

I've just gotten lucky in the past year. Not as many deer as pre-katrina.

I do the same. Lots more hogs than pre-katrina though. Between two of my relatives down there they lost over 3,000 head of cattle for Katrina and the hogs have pretty much take over the cow land. And spread to pretty much everywhere.
Before Katrina, they were pretty much only in south pass and beginning of Pass a loutre. Now they are everywhere.

Felt like it could use a bump. Aside from Da Hammer guiding me for the weekend, what's the plan for the trip?
Posted on 12/11/14 at 6:11 am to Capt ST
I think it's a great idea to get a group and make some plans, but the reality of the situation (and past experience) leads me to believe that this should've been planned out a little earlier.
The main issue would be shuttling folks and a ton of gear down river. If there are not at least a couple larger type boats committed to the cause, then we might have some logistic issues.
I've camped Pass a Loutre many times for extended weekend stretches and can email anyone our old, in depth packing list. I would like to go as well, but would need someone to commit to towing my mudboat down river, as I do not feel comfortable navigation the river in a 16ft mudboat these days.
If this trip falls through, we could still salvage it by getting a couple rooms and hunting some more easily accessible public land down that way. Just a thought.
