Using OSB for a box blind and planning on priming then putting two coats of exterior paint on it..will that be good enough to withstand the weather for a few seasons?

Why not build it right the first time?

Should be fine especially if you hit both inside and outside.

I have a porch at my camp we made with OSB with the intent on painting that's exposed to the elements. After two years and never getting around to painting it it's holding up fine.

I would think so. When you go to buy your paint, ask them if they have any paint on clearance. A lot of the time people will bring paint back and they mark it down considerably. We went last week to Lowe's to buy paint for 3 boxstands we just built. I asked the paint associate if they had anything on clearance. Someone had just brought back a 5 gallon bucket of Valspar olive green paint. It sells for $180 and I got it for $25. Then I got a $20 rebate too when I checked out

They always have discounted paints and sometimes you get lucky and get a color that you can use

how many sheets are you going to use? 6 total for a 4x8 blind? less for a smaller blind?

how much are you saving vs B/C plywood which is more durable and stronger structurally? 8 a sheet?

so for an extra 30 to 50 dollars you are using cheap osb?

can always get a color tinted to black or brown and usually for free if you are already buying the clearance paint.

I just had this discussion a week ago. My buddy said he likes to use OSB on box blinds, because the chips that flake off give it a leafy effect.

He was joking...

It'll hold up a few years, but spend the extra money on some thin 3/8ths plywood and do it right.

Thankfully my uncle is the supervisor at a lumber yard for a construction company. He's typically able to salvage a bunch of the scrap lumber that they aren't able to use and we use it for our stands

I painted my box stand with left over grey paint. It's not really camp, but it was free!

Is this box blind in constant shade? Just get 1/4" plywood and save yourself having to rip out rotten wood in 5 years. I have 3 box stands that were built in 1998 and the only improvement I did was put cheap indoor/outdoor carpet in them to soften the noise my law chairs make when I unfold them.

OSB loves water. Throw some marine varnish on it and and let the hair go with the hide.
