I want to replace all of my chrome on my truck and I was wondering about just getting them painted instead of buying new ones. Would a body shop do this? Can they remove chrome from plastic and reprint? Any ideas on approx cost?

You could get it wrapped in vinyl or plasti-dip it. I dipped my emblems, pretty easily.

I had it done on my truck, I bought an XL model front and rear bumpers($350) then had it painted and the painter scuffed and painted over my chrome grill. I then sold my chrome bumpers for $400, painter charged me $700, and I uninstalled/reinstalled everything. It's held up well in the ~5 years since I've had it done with the exceptions of a couple rock chips. Before committing to paint though see about having the parts vinyl wrapped instead.

I was just looking at vinyl wrapping while you guys were commenting. I saw a lot of DIY videos. Has anyone done it themselves?

I've done some small parts before, my door handle cracked so I bought a new one and wrapped it and a couple other small pieces, matches perfectly, and has lasted well so far. I'm actually about to do my outer grill shell since the current one is cracked so it'll be my first try with a large part, just waiting for the vinyl to come in. The stuff is actually quite easy to work with if you take your time.

Can you wrap parts with texture? My side mirrors have that kind of orange peel texture and now that I'm thInking about it I may do them too. Just need a heat gun, right?

Yes/no. On the door handle that cracked the replacement was textured, the texture shows through lightly where the vinyl was stretched thin.

ETA: It sticks to the textured material just fine but shows the texture through on the thin areas. I may redo it soon and put 2 layers to cover the texture.

I would plastidip the bumpers and grills. It's cheaper and easier to do than a wrap. If you do want to wrap them then make sure the vinyl matches your paint right. What color are you wanting?

Missed that post, I found out what color vinyl matched my paint code and just ordered it from Amazon.

Just plain white. No pearl or anything.

There are A LOT of white vinyls and they can vary in the shade of white. Just keep that in mind. Try and do like YOURADHERE said and match your paint code with the vinyl.

Plasti-dip is a diy project for sure. I did my badges, with 6 or 7 coats. Check out some videos.
I wouldn't buy their kits. Wal-marks has it for $6 a can. Did my front, rear and 2 side SR5 emblems with less than 1 can.

I'll be doing my bedcaps valence and rear bumper cap this weekend with SEM bumper coater.

I can post results if you want. Just did my interior panels where the sun faded them with colorbond.

They look great, left some texture I had to wet sand. Should have gotten the SEM paint.

I've gotten pretty good with an HVLP gun coating smallish metal parts. But, got dam 700 for two bumpers that are essentially long flat surfaces has me wondering about changing my business model. I charge $330 for most camo patterns on gun which takes 8 hours to complete mostly due to stencil layout time. Each coat of a one color bumper could be laid up easily in under 15 minutes, if that long. Base, base, clear 45 minutes max and dry time you could be doing other shite.

Yup. I was hoping that $700 included the price of the bumpers.
