WTF? Is that the going rate or high? Wasn’t long ago that rice bran was cheaper than corn by a material amount.

I paid $8.98 for a 30# sack of apple corn from Walmart last week because it was the only place open and I was headed to the camp tye next morning. I felt violated!

The place I go to, Rice bran and nut grub is $13 and 50lb corn is $9.50.
Another store down the road is charging 19 for the same thing.
When I first started using rice bran, it was 5 buck for 50 lbs. then everyone found out about it and started using, price has gone up ever since.

Sound like the lady at the place selling the rice bran for $15. So we found a better option with a friendlier owner and a better price. One lost a customer and another gained one. Capitalism and freedom is great.

The weekly USDA price bulletin has rice bran at $185/ton FOB mills in Arkansas. So that would be about $4.65 per 50# sack. So someone is buying it for the equivalent of $4.65. Then trucking it to their bagging plant. Running it through their system, bagging and weighing each bag. Palletizing and shrink wrapping the pallets. Then marketing the material to retailers. Selling it for probably $9 a bag delivered. Then those retailers are putting a 35% gross margin on it and praying they don't buy too much inventory so they have to sit on it in their warehouse all winter.
So who in this supply chain is making an unreasonable profit margin?

I posted about the ones selling for $15 per bag not $9 as you suggested. If retailer buys it for $9 a bag and sells it for $15 that is a 66% markup not $35%
Second place we stopped at was selling 50 lb sack for $11 bucks. So you know they buying it for $9 or less from wholesaler. So the place selling for $15 is probably marking it up more than 66%
. It is a byproduct of rice milling. Only real wholesale cost is putting it in a bag and labor to do that. Fact that USDA says price is x just means that is the average price, not the cost of manufacture.

High feed cost means more meat will hit the ground this fall. The deer might be extincted soon.
