One of the last actions of the Obama administration last week was to ban lead ammunition and fishing sinkers on most federal lands. Fishing and hunting advocacy groups are hoping the directive will be overturned by the Trump administration.

Dan Ashe, director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, issued the decree on Thursday, his final full day in office. It makes lead illegal on national parks, wildlife refuges and any other land administered by the service. Unaltered, the ban will have a major impact on hunting public land, since most ammunition is lead-based.

The director did not present evidence showing spent single-shot lead ammunition, like that fired through rifles, imperiled wildlife. Instead, he said the service would get behind scientific efforts that showed a link.

"The service will continue to support targeted research to understand the human, fish and wildlife health benefits of using nontoxic ammunition and fishing tackle," he wrote.

hopefully this gets overturned

I think Trump signed legislation within minutes of becoming president to stop all pending regulations proposed by Obama.

the audacity of that shitstain president to enact all those executive orders is amazing. And it is sad the media went along with that guy instead of crucifying him.

I think it's dumb, but it would sure improve the NWR deer hunting. I feel so dirty for wanting this to happen, but it might get me back into deer hunting.

Translation: We have no evidence lead ammo is bad but will back any "study" that says it is. Typical government research methodology. That line of thinking caused some issues with bow fishermen a few years back.

Unfortunately, including tungsten in pistol and rifle bullets makes them AP by Federal law. Big reason why gun-control advocates want lead ammo bans is that it would raise the cost of ammo significantly.

Fewer people would do whatever it takes to participate in primitive and center fire seasons.

A former Navy SEAL from Montana is about to be head of the Department of Interior. I think this goes away quickly.

It should but it also should be a reminder to others that gun rights are not secure. To think the PT board had a thread where many thought the NRA was paranoid and then you have this.

I heard an interview today on the POTUS channel (Sirius/XM) where the interviewee (former Trump campaign advisor) said the National Repub Party (NRP) has identified over 1000 executive orders that Obama signed that were "buried" in regulations promulgated by various Federal agencies.

He said that these Obama exec. orders were cataloged and copied prior to the 2016 election, and are now sitting on Trump's "desk" for his review.

He said the NRP had learned its lesson after Bush 43 was elected. It reportedly took two years to find and repeal all the exec. orders Clinton had signed and quietly buried in federal regs. This time the NRP started combing regs immediately after the repub convention to find all the "land mines" and have them ready for the new President to review & repeal.

eta: Cabela's & Bass Pro still have plenty of lead bullet weights (worm weights) on hand.

It also highlights how trashy the democrats have been. Sabotaging your successor is beyond pathetic.

If you read the actual decree they issued, its not set to take effect till 2022, and it has a sunset provision for 2018, so its not really a big deal.

Yeah, but I hate to see ambiguous language as used in this decree, making it open to interpretation and subject to "agendas."

quote:

Require the use of nontoxic ammunition and fishing tackle to the fullest extent practicable for all activities on Service lands, waters, and facilities by January 2022, except as needed for law enforcement or health and safety uses, as provided for in policy.

Hopefully, this will be one of MANY executive orders Trump will eliminate.

This is basically communism.
