Went with a Diamondback Overdrive Comp 29er. I chose DB partially because it was my first real mountain bike when I was 14 and I had a blast with it until it was stolen right out of my driveway. Call it a nostalgia purchase.

If anyone knows some great trails around here please post me the deets!

You're gonna love the 29'er. Rides much easier.

I got the Specialized Rockhopper Comp, also a nostalgia bike for me. Still have my 1989 Rockhopper from Tuffy's.

Comite is a nice little ride. I have a Rockhopper 29er too. It's a sweet ride.

All good ideas. However, make your way to Tammany Trace as well. Completely level and paved, but nice sights this time of year. A good time and you can grab a beer or three and detour out to the lake pontchatrain riverfront in Mandeville.

Clear Springs (MS) Rec area has some pretty technical trails. I havent been in years but always had a blast there. There is a bike wash at the trailhead.

How does Comite compare to Hooper? Went there a few weeks ago and it was slower and more technical/challenging than what I was looking for. Had to turn around a little ways past the Collarbone down by the creek.

First and foremost, trash the fork and get at a minimum a Reba RL.

Secondly, how much did you pay? If you paid over $700 you overpaid big time.

Whatever fork comes stock would have to be God awful for me to upgrade it right out the box. I looked online and saw that Reba RL fork is $300-$400....just for one bike component. I'm not that into riding to warrant that kind of investment.

Paid $600ish for the bike. Read plenty of positive reviews about the shimano deore components.
