I posted this on the OT and it was suggested to try here. Said I would get better responses. TIA.

I just bought a Springfield XDS 9mm. I have been looking to get my first single stack because I've gained a little weight (I know, trashy fatass) so my EDC double stack was starting to get uncomforfable. I know I should lose weight instead of getting a thinner pistol, but whatever.

So I narrowed my search to the XDS and Smith & Wesson M&P Shield. The XDS was about $40 more and will be my first experience with Springfield. I'm partial to Glocks and S&W normally, but this gun just looks and feels so good.

Any of you have any experience with this gun or Springfield? Will I be disappointed or pleasantly surprised?

I saw somewhere that they came with 3 mags, holster, and magazine holster, but mine only came with the 7rd mag, 8rd mag, and backstrap and grip extension to match the backstrap. I was wondering if they just stopped doing it or if it was only with the XDM's. The review where I saw that was from a couple years ago. Anyways, thanks I will check that out.

Both are fine guns. Handle them both and see which one fits you best.

Go to a range and see which one is more comfy then make the buy. Every person is different when it comes to shooting

Xds and shield are similar quality pistols..
Its just preference and that extra $40 you spoke of. It you like the feel of the xds, then you should be happy with it.

I personally think it's the sexiest polymer pistol in existence. It Just looks right.

Congrats.

I'm very interested in a xds .45, just worried about the recoil and havent had the chance to shoot one.

I'm not sure if it's the same type of action on the single stack version but the full sized and compact XD handguns must have the grip safety depressed to rack the slide. I don't care all that much about the grip safety being there but I think that's an unnecessary part of it.

If the XDs is the same as the others, I think the Shield has an advantage there. But if not, they're both of equal quality although the XDs includes more in the box. I also think the XDs has a better factory sight picture with the fiber optic front. To get that on a factory Shield you would need to get the more expensive performance center model.

Springfield makes a great gun.
I have always been a S&W and Glock man, but after shooting my buddies XDS I fell in love.
I just purchased a XDS 40, 3.3 barrel. It is surprisingly accurate for such a short barrel. It has a great feel to it, and also a great gun if your looking to conceal carry. The 45 with the 3.3 might be a little much. You will not be disappointed.

Poster hogdaddy brought the gear up link in a thread a couple weeks ago so all credit can go to him. I'll have to admit it almost pushed me into getting one myself. One day when my shield gets boring I'll pick one up. The xds fits my hands like a glove.
