One or both eyes open with your pistol optic?

I try keeping both eyes open but i cant find the red dot…with one eye it’s super easy to stack it on-top the irons.
Is there a trick? Seems like eye dominance is set for a 50 yr old.

Men with balls shoot with both eyes all the time. Men with vaginas shoot with one eye closed.

Always shoot both eyes open. Take the red dot and cover the front with tape. You will learn to be target focused and not dot focused. Just dry fire and practice drawing and you will eventually get it. Red dot occlusion is a very common way to train with the dot.

Read up on it a bit..why not just turn it off? Saw people make kydex covers for the front, but mine isn’t built for something like that.
Will try it.

Both eyes open or one eye closed doesn’t matter. Just shoot the damn pistol

You still want the dot visible lol. Occluding the dot still lets you use the dot. Just use tape.

I got suppressor height irons installed to aid in acquisition, but i guess that simply reinforces one eye habits.
Gaining accuracy with both eyes open is the goal.

I have issues with both eyes open on iron sights. But on my EDC, I have a red dot because I actually do better with both eyes open. Target focus with both eyes open and the dot becomes more crisp/defined for me. If I try to focus on the dot, it's starts to distort...especially with one eye.
Are you having trouble utilizing the dot, or just picking it up quickly from the draw? I draw about 20 times every evening before putting my gun up for the night just to reinforce the muscle memory. Should be the same motion as picking up your sights.

I can pick it up instantly only using my dominant eye…actually, Im getting a little better at both eyes just messing with it. Will be interesting to see where the bullet goes.

You should really never shoot a red dot with one eye closed. Either on pistol or rifle.
For irons, many people cannot shot with both eyes open, but it's the best way to shoot matter what in a dwfsneive/tactical situation just because you're eliminating half of your awareness and sight by doing so.
