You think he caught that noodling, or did he catch it with his noodle?

If Flatheads are so good to eat, and they are the fastest growing catfish, then why do we farm Channels instead of Flatheads? Feed conversion ratio?

Wrong LSUballs, flat heads are the slowest growing of the sub species. Others close to this size have all been aged well over 50+ years old. Good shot this thing is 75+. LDWF had a study years ago of a group of flatheads in the 10 to 15 lb range. All were on average 12 years old with none younger than 9

The average annual increment of growth in weight accelerated sharply to about five pounds per year by the ninth year of life (Figure 1).

So say they weigh zero pounds at 10 years old (they'll weigh closer to 20 lbs) at 5lbs a year they will weigh 100lbs at age 30.

Fact: A flathead can reach 50lbs in under 10 years and 90lbs by its 15th year of life in invasive rivers.

How far north are you?

I've bbqed 40lb blue cat filets from a 40lb fish. Just like any oily fish, add lemon and fuity peppery flavors.

Didn't qualify for the state record so it wasn't on a rod and reel, that would be a beast to wrangle noodling.

So you wouldn't mind giving up some hunting and fishing spots within 2 hrs of okc then? Hah. Just moved up here in July.

I grew up in BR and this is a whole different world. Did OK in duck season but fishing has me all kinds of sideways and don't know where to start for deer. Ain't no trees to climb!

because $. flatheads are mostly predatory and channels will eat anything.
