Oil Catch Can After 2000-3000 Miles (Everyone should look into this)

I read up a lot about oil catch cans about 2 months ago. Basically it reroutes the air coming from the PCV valve and allows the oil and oil vapors to collect in a container before the air gets to the intake manifold. This prevents the oil from going straight into the combustion chambers. Here is a depiction:
And here is what mine collected after a few road trips and regular driving:
I'm not sure if the long term benefits will be noticeable in terms of engine longevity but I sure am happy I'm not just straight recycling this crap back into my engine.
And if anyone is curious, I just put this stuff back into the crankcase. I'm at about 50% oil life right now anyway.

Confused - why would you put sludge and oil residues back in your crank case?
Interesting product.

Would that be the same as an oil separator? I'm more than a little worried about my direct injection engine and residue building up on the valves since it doesn't have a oil separator stock.

Surprised you don't have the Amsoil filter bypass system hooked up too

Got one on my truck. I've never taken the valve covers or heads off, so can't vouch for it's effectiveness, but I'd have to assume it's doing something if it's keeping all of that residue out.
It's a really popular mod for the 5.7 hemi motors.

My understanding was that sludge is the thick deposit layer at the bottom of the oil pan. The stuff collected by the can comes out the crankcase but not from the bottom.

That is pretty much exactly what it is.

Elaborate por favor.

Next time I clean my throttle body I'll definitely post my results. I'm hoping to see a nice bone dry intake manifold.

Run em on my race motors but for a different reason. We use em to keep any blow by from being expelled and messing up the track/road. When run in conjunction with a vacuum evac system you massively lower your chances for an oil down.

I cleaned my TB and Seafoamed not too long ago. The TB was very clean, got a little smoke from the Seafoam...but nothing crazy.

Can you elaborate on this? Or are you saying that's exactly what the can does?

Seafoam will always smoke when it burns through. I'm just curious if your intake manifold stayed clean. Good to hear it's working.

That's what the can does, we also use a vacuum evac system on the high compression motors that dumps any blow by into the headers at their hottest point to burn it off.
See the hoses coming off of the vented filler caps, they go to a fitting welded in about 3" in front of the header collectors. You can't see the catch can on this one I'll see if I have a pic of the 57's motor on my phone because you can see the whole thing on it.
Ok the can on the left is the catch can and there are line coming out of it that return to the crankcase as well as go to the headers.

I don't have the ability to comprehend this thread.

Here's a pic someone took while it was rolling up to stage at a no prep street race in Houston a few months ago. That's me in the cap walking behind it.

I drive Toyotas, why would I want to spend extra money on something that never breaks?

Absolutely gorgeous car you've got there!

Thanks, we got more than a few dollars tied up in it, but it sure is fun.

That thing looks like it will outrun a phone call.
