palomar> uni to uni. IMO.

How are you using a palomar to join two lines?!?! And if I am using heavy braid direct tied to a hook, it's a double palomar every time.

That's a big negative it's proven a uni to uni is stronger than an Albright

With that said if both are tied properly you really to don't have to worry about much

well when using big leaders my uni to uni knots looked like the braid was cutting through the mono. I switched to albright and didnt have to tie another leader.

Might check out the Tallus. It will probably be used more for casting than jigging.

Man, this convo is getting way over my head. I'm going to have to learn some new connections before I start another offshore thread.

I think I'll probably try out the Jerry Brown non hollow core. Do they sell it at BPS, or is that something I need to grab off the internet or make a trip to Superior for?

thats why i got the tallus. a buddy has the travala and i wanted more of a casting rod.

hell i didnt even know there was more braid than power pro or spider wire. i have 30# spiderwire(like 8 years old) on my mangrove rig and was horsing decent size ones out with that without any breakoffs due to abrasion.

If that was happening you weren't tying the uni knot properly

Also you can cast pretty well with a trevala but you really can't go wrong with either the trevala or tallus

well i dont ride the short bus and i can watch a animated demonstration of how to tie it. and when the line comes back with the knot still tied and the leader end severed at the knot, the only thing i can think of is the 30# braid is cutting through the 50# fluoro.

Went to BPS to check out the rods mentioned. Almost walked out with a Terez. Damn things felt amazing, but I didn't know which one to get. Decided to research it a little more before I bought one. Then I read a lot about them breaking tips when you high stick them.

I don't want the PITA of having a rod break on me during a trip, so I think I'm going to go with the Tallus. Didn't feel as good as the Terez, but hopefully it won't break and it's $120 cheaper.

Go get'em.

How much fishing are you looking to do with this new set up you have?

Realistically, only a couple times a year offshore. Hopefully that will become more frequent in the future. I'll probably bring it to catch bull reds just to play with it. But using it for it's intended purpose won't happen often.

Gotcha, if it were me, I'd go for the cheaper rod and use the money saved to pay for gas for a mangrove/cobia trip to put that bad boy to use.

Hope the thread helped and good fishing in the future.
