For ultimate ballistics you would want a 24" barrel. However, depending on the application you can make compromises for weight and size by making the barrel shorter. 12-24" would be no problem for 350yds. You just need to decide if you want a legit stock or not and then how big and heavy of a gun you want to tote around the woods. Personally, I like an 18" barrel DMRish/SPRish type setup. A 12" barrel SBR, or pistol, would be clutch on those night hog hunts, as tractor gun or brush gun or as a suppressed Grendel. The answer to should I get another lower should always be yes.

Yea i know if I make it a pistol I need a new lower. Mainly looking for a good hog/coyote gun, or throw in the boat when working on the ducks ponds to shoot nutra's and what not. Also would like it on the range. I have other options to use like my 223 or the 300BLK I'm building for the boat scenario. Tough decisions. I plan on getting a suppressor so I have to keep that in mind with the length as well.
Ordered a faxon barrel for the 300 BLK. Found it on sale. Interested to try it out.

Literally the only point of .300blk is short barrel and suppressed

That's the reason I decided to keep my mcx to go forward with sbr and putting its 8" 300blk barrel on. I also have the suppressor width handguard to fit the hybrid. Maybe make it my HD gun if I can find good sub ammo for that. Haven't looked much yet.

Could the mcx setup make for a good HD gun you think? What kind of sub HD 300blk ammo is there (if any)?

Get a Honey Badger. Preorders are open on Q's site. Already ordered mine. Badass proprietary stock (with machined channels in receiver), ATC AR Gold trigger (best trigger on the market), Radian charging handle, adjustable gas block, 7" barrel, quick change turnbuckle handguard. Shipping in August - $2500 for gun and suppressor

MCX is super cool, but the HB is even cooler and you don't have to upgrade jack shite on it

Gorilla ammo. They make great stuff. Suppressed 300blk is my choice for home defense. Only thing that won't render you deaf if you have to shoot in the house.

Yea I seen you talking about that setup before. Problem is I have a 16" .223 mcx, 8" blk barrel, supressor handguard, sig match trigger, and hybrid already. All I need to do is send off for the sbr stamp and then pop the barrel on. Otherwise I'd look more at the HB.

I'll check out that ammo!

The wait time is going to plummet once they work through the massive spike of early July forms

It was.

But I think you can buy a used pre-Freedom Group M700 and a stock and put one together cheaper.

I have been cruising GunBroker for deals on used M700's. My thought is to find one in 300WM or 338WM and have it Black-T'd and stick it in one of those Magpul stocks.

The sooner you file the sooner it gets approved due to the nature of how queues work

I don't understand the want for subsonic defense ammo. You don't have to be tactically quiet your just trying to have a gun that isn't unweildy because it's long and heavy so you go for the short barrel. Then you don't want to blow your ear drums out so you get the suppressor. A suppressed super is not going to hurt or phase you and delivers that much more energy on target.

I just don't understand the real world need or desire for the gun to be that quiet for home defense. I promise a suppressed super isnolenty quiet enough to not do any damage to you but it should to that much more damage to the bad guy

That's a subjective call. I have a Nikon 3x and a Bushnell 1-4x on my two AR's. Both on sale for just over $100. They work fine for what I use them for-range time to 100 yards. Hopefully they'll meet some hogs before too long...
