Thanks

Just changed my 300 blackout up a bit. Changed out the Handguard to a Spikes and my Omega rides under the Spikes now.

Anyone know if a gas tube typically gets hot enough to melt a Surefire remote switch cable? It seems like quite a few people run them under their handguard, but there's no way to do so in mine without contacting the gas tube.

One thing I have learned is that your never finished with your AR. You just take breaks in between spending money on them.

Anyone have any thoughts/experience with the Eagle Arms Eagle 15? LINKI've been looking at it and it can be picked up for under $500.

Compared to everyone's favorite budget AR15 S&W MP15 Sport II seems pretty close in specs. Off the top off my head compared to the S&W MP Sport II:

1:8 twist v. 1:9. Personally I would prefer the 1:8 of the eagle arms.

Barrel coating. Eagle Arms doesn't mention barrel coating. S&W uses Melonite which is a great barrel coating. Tough as nails. Slick and easy to clean. Cheaper barrels are normally phosphate. Nothing wrong with Phosphate, I just think Melonite is better. It's a hard surface treatment which gives you Chrome lined barrel longevity. FYI Melonite is a trade marked name, but several coatings are essentially the same.

S&W comes with a rear sight. If you are wanting one that is going to bring the Eagle Arms closer to S&W price.

I have a pre-merger EA-15 rifle and it is bombproof. Since these are essentially "budget" Armalite rifles now, I wouldn't hesitate, particularly if

is your cup of tea.

Solid contender for budget/entry rifle along with the Sport II and the Ruger.

This will be my first AR, but from what all I have seen it seems like it is worth every penny of what is being asked fr it. $488.00 is hard to beat.

For $49 plus shipping I really like this Matrix handguard. Only negative is the lack of locking alignment tabs like the KMR but it seems really solid non the less. Color also seems just a smidge lighter than normal AR15 black. Can't complain too much for $64 (shipped price)

Rained this weekend, planned to go to the local range to re-zero a few rifles but that's not a chore I like to do when it's wet. Got bored and decided to swap my ACOG to my Spike's rifle in place of the EOTech and picked up a Vortex 1-6x and Burris mount for the RRA rifle.

Gas flow within the few thousandths of a second that they travel down the gas tube average about 4,000 F (goes higher in shorter gas systems). Takes very little time for the gas tube to reach temperatures that will melt any plastic touching it.

Then you need a different handguard or a different way to run the cable, anything touching the gas tube will impact accuracy. That's why it's important to properly set the barrel nut such that the gas tube is centered and doesn't contact anything but the gas block and gas key as the rifle cycles.

Never would have thought some light contact on the gas tube would affect accuracy, but it makes sense with how much the barrel flexes when a round is fired. After some tinkering I found a better way to route the cable, preciate it
