It took some getting used to but I am indifferent about it now. I still have a vertical grip on the AK that I like a lot. Just wanted to try something different.

You got a pic of your AK?

Could i build an AK for around the same price i can build an AR?

Are you local to BR? If so we may be blessed to make it happen. The Ergo is better than any other grip I've tried, including whatever magpul calls theirs nowadays.

Geaux, I got pics but not on this phone. Bump this thread tomorrow and I'll get you some of my AK and then them together.

AKs are much cheaper to buy, own, and shoot than any AR. They just aren't as accurate as an AR. Both are stupid reliable though.

Okay will do. Hmmm...can you build AKs as easy as ARs and are they as customizable? This will be my first build. So i am a complete noob to all the terms you guys use. I hunt and own several guns just not knowledgeable on the AR/AKs.

Simply put, no. One buys an AK whole. If you are looking to hunt, get an AR. If you want to shoot for cheap, get an AK.

If you want the grown man's version of Legos, get an AR and prepare to spend more money than you have.

Like ICS said- if you want a gun that is extremely customizable, get an AR. AKs are cheaper to own, cheaper to shoot, and the first gun I would choose if I need a SHTF gun...but an AR is more fun to throw money into

Not bad at all. I also like that it's marked multi caliber. 99% of the lowers out there will do the job. Just decide between billet and forged.

First i have heard of this. I'm assuming forged is beat into place when its red hot and billet is more of a machine cut. But what does each bring to the table? Is one heavier than the other or is it just about looks?

Unfortunately I'm not, but I'm sure I'll get my hands on one before I make it back to Louisiana. I'm looking at taking a rifle class soon.

Just looks. Granted, billets look much better but cost a lot more too. All the lowers that I've owned have been forged. My next build will be a sbr and that lower will be a billet.

Yat, well damn. The class should be fun though.

I know it's hard not to jump on the Mega (billet)set, but these from CMT, are really good looking. And priced right.

CMT @ AIM $340

I like the lines on that CMT set but hate the front magwell grip stuff. There is a company that does a shark thing and it looks just as dumb.

For a budget (and great looking) billet, here you go. Click here to end the suspense.

I wish the cmt uppers came available sooner. Look like a better match but oh well. The threaded bolt catch assembly

Okay, so as i posted last night i am ordering my lower on Friday. The next thing to order is my LPK. Can i get a run down on what makes these different from each other. Are they all the same? Where can i find some decent prices on the kits.

Also, do they all fit any lower? Ill post my lower to see what kind of kit i need if they don't all fit.
My Lower

Sorry for all the questions. TIA

All LPKs will fit that lower. Not all LPKs are the same quality though. Popular LPKs: RRA, CMMG, BCM, Spikes, etc. My favorite (for why, look at my pic above) is DD.
