His competitor carries that one, but only made from recovered lumber. He bought that one and sent me the pic.

He wants me to replicate that at scale, from virgin fiber.

It's not the exact same but it accomplishes the same goal. A clean looking miter from the outside and plenty of glue surface on the inside for a strong joint.

If you want to run 5000 feet a day (that's almost a mile) I'd get the baddest arse shaper that I could afford with a powerfeed.

You looking at about $5,000-$6,000 for that.

Claw Miter joint might be just what they call it there.

But you could honestly run with any of those other miter joints that some have posted for routers.

I don't think you'll be able to run that through a molder, since it runs boards through similar to a planer and the knives cut on the face grain.

This will have to probably have to be done with two fully-custom shaper bits. You would definitely want a shaper for this process. 16 footers continuously through will require some horses and a larger bit to not burn up the carbides so fast.

You could probably inquire with Freud, Amana or possibly Whiteside, although I think Whiteside does just router bits not shapers.

Looks like an offset lock miter. If you're going to be running a lot of these, you definitely want to get a shaper and not a router. Shapers are setup for heavy, large volume use. They also run with less vibration, which means a cleaner cut if you are running the joint down a long beam.

I'm wondering if one bit cut both those.

One board cut face up
One board cut face down.

It's either a shaper or router and I'd bet anything it's a shaper.

Google "lock miter shaper bit"

Kind of, one piece is run standing flat against the fence, the corresponding piece is run flat against the table.

This is your answer. Running 5k bf, that will burn some bits unless you have real power.

Yeah. I mean, it's a sawmill. It's got three phase 480.

We run about 700 total HP.
