Alright guys I'm ready to bite the bullet and buy a gps. I've been away from hunting national forest lands for several years now, but want to get back to bowhunting and turkey hunting them. The one within minutes of me is 95,000 acres and I've already got turned around in there once before. So what is a good quality GPS that you guys have firsthand knowledge with? I know I don't need the camera option and I'd prefer it to be non-touchscreen. I want to stay below $400 if possible because I'm already planning on buying a new bow this year

iPhone? Mine tracks good. :lol Used to hunt 20Kac place coon hunting at night. Never got lost or turned around. Always had a compass, but know how to read trees for true north.

I use a combination of a Garmin eTrex 10 and Google maps on my phone. The eTrex 10 doesn't have the simplest user interface but it's simple enough to save waypoints and rename them. I use this mainly before and after dark. But honestly, I'll use Google maps to show me where I am on a satellite map, especially when going into an unfamiliar spot. When I find a spot, I'll take a screenshot of my Google map which has a blue dot for my location and I'll also save it as a waypoint on the eTrex. Google maps works for me even when I can't get a signal for a text message.

Been using this for a few years. No trails or routes, but it will get you back to your mark.
