I don’t understand this thread.
Are we upset that game wardens can hear/see evidence of illegal hunting and them going to investigate it?
Is the next issue going to be how they use robotic deer to catch illegal hunters?

You can use Google earth and find the plots. Drones can cover a lot of ground as well.

Drones with thermal imaging to help catch hunters staying after shooting hours as well.

Good point. I always wondered why people get upset about baiting but don’t think twice about hunting next to a corn field. I don’t see any measurable difference.

You fricking moron. This CWD bullshite is about justifying green Leo’s existence (to grow) and additional removal of freedom. It would be easy to have your keighbor hassled by these zealous fricks. “Never let a crisis go to waste”

I don't know about all that...A couple of friends in BR that are close to LDWF higher-ups told me that LDWF is scared to death of this shite taking over the state. But what gets me is there has not appeared to be any effort on their part to test deer in the off season. You'd think at least they would be out there sampling every road kill carcass they found.

Unfortunately I don’t think any of this will do any good. Except provide for additional enforcement opportunities. I don’t bait, never have.

My question is : how did CWD get here? My guess would be high fenced antler farms.

This supports my point.

Supposedly the prions or whatever they are can live some ungodly amount of time and can only be destroyed by incendiary.
So a soybean field with 25-30 deer or a persimmon tree or a wild plum orchard somehow doesn’t contribute to it??!?

The baiting ban will do nothing to stop CWD (likely all over already), but will become a massive money and harassment machine for the govt to do more govt BS.

I've had much better success with healthy plots vs hunting corn or anything else, but I can promise during the freeze up in 20, the deer sure appreciated those feeders.

….about justifying green Leo’s….

A few weeks ago I would have argued with you on this, but having spoken to several landowners who have been ticketed, I’m coming to the realization that they are filling their coffers with money like a Baskin speed trap.

And BTW, if they can’t find the hunter who put the bait out, they’re cutting tickets to the landowners.

However, the bigger question isn’t about the ban on baiting, but rather where do we go from here. IF they don’t find another CWD positive deer this season, they will continue implementing the No baiting policy for 3-5 years.

Someone made a great point about the number of tickets they’ll write to folks who kill deer on the Tensas and then get caught transporting the whole carcass.

All you can do is try and follow the letter of the law, regardless of how difficult they make it.

My main concern is that they will implement a total kill off similar to what they tried in southeastern WS. Kill everything that moves in an effort to stop the spread.

Again, I don’t care whether someone baits or not, I was simply pointing out that if you hunt that area, be careful if you’re baiting.

I’m not trying to pick a fight here or be a smartass, but deer are grazers by nature. They like to spread out and keep moving while they feed. This behavior in some ways prevents them from congregating on one small area (corn, rice bran, minerals).

I guess what I’m saying is, in the minds of the biologist, concentrating dozens of deer in a 10 square foot area is more harmful than the same number of deer feeding over an acre food plot.

Its the main reason they exist! The other poster I quoted mentioned he’d not seen LDWF doing any sampling on road kills, etc. Why would they when they know they will have plenty of confiscated meat and entire carcasses to test especially once rifle season begins.

And if the egregious offender is lucky they might be made famous on the TV show!!

I hunt in Claiborne County, MS now in a no bait zone.

Over the summer I asked the Co-op about how much the lack of corn sales would hurt them they said they hadn't seen a drop off at that time and weren't worried about it.

I know for a fact they flew our lease and our neighbors lease about 3-4 weeks ago with drones looking for active feeders. We had pulled all of our feeders out of the woods over the summer except permanent troughs which the GW said they could tell an active feeder from inactive.

I don't see this going away CWD will likely only get worse with time, it sucks it's here.

I'm still looking into adding Humic acid into our plots in an effort to try and curb it but still don't quite understand the application and theory enough to do so but looking at it.
