Night time bass fishing

How many of you guys do this? What's your bait of choice?
I admit I've done very little but will be doing it this weekend.

I spent one summer about 10 years ago fishing about twice a week at night in Henderson. Much cooler, but you will die without effective bug repellent.
I had my best luck with worms and brush hogs.

Not as much anymore, and I miss it. I only needed two rods. One with a large dark worm with a big paddle type curl tail, and the other with either a white or black spinnerbait with single colorado blade. I have caught a few on buzz baits, but not as many as on spinner baits. if there are any lights on the lake, fish under them, especially on the margins of the light.

Definitely a plus

I'll give this a try
I think we'll be using swim baits and frogs mostly but I'll probably rig up a worm rod.

Do it all the time. Use a black and red baby brush hog. We kill em on it. Also use a small weight.

Unless I'm pitching/flipping or in very deep water, I use the smallest weight I have.

Large black or junebug plastics like the fullsize brushhog or zoom ol monster. I add a black glass bead between the weight and worm for a little extra noise. Fish slow but with movement.
Night fishing the strategy is big profiles, dark colors, and noise.

How big is too big for plastic worms? Is 10 1/2" too big or should I stay with 7 to 7 1/2"?

No. Big profiles.
A 10" worm is nothing for a 14" fish. And I've caught 8" fish on them before.

Did you rig them with a single hook (ala Texas or Carolina rig) or did you add a 2nd hook to it?

Texas. Every fish I've caught at night has nailed it, no guesswork involved.

Thanks.....I like idiot proof

I did pretty good on Caddo a few weeks ago on a Black/Blue chatterbait. Hard to beat a dark colored Ole Monster though.

12" Soft Plastic, Black standard spinner bait with #3 gold Colorado blade, and my personal favorite the Black Jitterbug.

I know some guys that catch on a Big-O type crank, but I don't have the patience to try.

Fish the lights along the docks in Venice marina ... Anything top water... Most fun you can have!!!

Try different soft plastics, as different lakes have their own preferences. Sometimes the fish like the Ole Monster or the Reactions Big Unit, but some nights they prefer more movement - Baby Paca craws and Zoom Super Speed Craws have been working for me on some lakes. Can't beat a brush hog either.
I fish Black Neon, Junebug, Red Shad, and Tequila Sunrise colors. Just like the bait, each lake has it's own preference of colors, and once you figure it out you'll have continued success.
As for weight I throw 5/16 or 3/8. I fish offshore humps usually around 10' with brush, and I like the bait to get down and to be able to feel everything. If you're fishing C-walls or docks, the light weight may be better. Night time is where a tungsten weight will help you feel much better.
Spinnerbait has never been for me. Got schooled on it by Alx once and try it sometimes, but have never had the success to throw it for very long. With BIG plastics you won't get as much action, but when you do you will need the net.
As someone else said, bring some skeeter dope. If you don't, you might as well load up the boat at dark. Good luck.

Thanks for all of the suggestions.
I'm actually going to be river fishing (it has an extremely slow current though). The water temps are 6 to 8 degrees cooler than the lakes and a friend of mine (I'll probably be in his boat) said he was there the other night until dark and the river literally came alive once the sun started going down. It has LOTS of cypress trees (my fav spots), depth changes & structure.
